EXPLORER X S

I am thinking about purchasing a used explorer xs, about 6 or 7 years old, suppose to be in good working condition. How good of a detector was it in its time? Does anyone know what it cost new or what it would be worth now?

The Explorer XS is still on par with the SE from what I have heard from XS users BUT the one you are looking at is 6-7 years old. That is something to take into serious consideration as well as the "suppose to be in good working condition"

I have heard of people running them for 10 years plus but then it gets near the end of it's life so you're close. I personally would not try to save a buck. I would spend the $$ and get a NEW SE/ the Pro coil. You'll probably be spending $600-700 more BUT you will have peace of mind having a 4 year warranty and KNOWING that it is a good machine and one that will last you for years to come. With MD you do get what you pay for. Just my 2

In it's time??? Even though the Explorer XS is an older Minelab, it still gets the job done. I can go out with guys using the Se or E-Trac and still run circles around them with my XS so just because it's not a Newer Explorer, doesn't mean that it is out-dated and can't find the Deep Stuff the other Newer Minelabs do. They all go about the same depth so if you can pick one up fairly cheap, then Go For It! If I remember right, the Explorer XS sold for $1195 when they first came out retail price. It will depend on the condition of the unit, but I have seen them selling for around the $500 range, with the Sunray X-1 Probe, when the detector is in nice shape yet. Just make sure that it works properly and ask about if there is any cracks on the cam locks where the pins are. That was a common flaw on the first batch and Minelab had to use a better plastic to fix that problem. If you still don't know if it is a good price, PM me a message with info about the unit and what the price is. I will get back to you ASAP and let you know if it is a good deal or not. Hope this helps! Good Luck and HH.

One of our site sponsors ( Don Dodson from North Georgia Relics ) has a Explorer II with an X-1 probe in the Classifieds section for only $500 shipped to your door.
I talk with Don on a regular basis and discussed this unit just yesterday, he took it as a trade in and it has camo tape all over it but I suspect it could all be removed easy enough.
He told me that the screen cover had been on it since day one, still looks new underneath and that the machine works as it should.
Don is a GREAT guy and pleasure to do business with ...... and a hunting buddy of mine.
I just checked the classifieds section a moment ago and couldn't believe that it was still there for this price ... especially with a X-1 probe included in the deal !!!

My XS is nine years old and I consistently dig coins at the 10" depth. I use an eight inch coil and the X1 probe. Best MD I have ever used. If the one you

Bought an Explorer Xs myself recently .Paid arround $ 300 US Dollars
Had one fault concerning the audio jack plug .Which i replaced
and has worked fine since (.ie was losing sound .)
Since purchase replaced the foam hand grip and fitted later carbon fibre
lower shaft .
Have been using the standard coil .
and have used the Xs for approx 30 hours
with out any problems
Cant tell how old it is .But seems well used
I suppose its a hit or a miss buying an older
machine .
But so far have been very happy with it.

I picked up a used XS in August for $420 and it works great!I set it up with a used X-1 probe and a used X-8 coil for a total cost of less than $650 . I have everything I need and I love the machine and I'm doing real well with it.
