Explorer vs. trashy Home Site ???

I took my Explorer to an old home place today and it went crazy. There was so many targets it was rough on the ears. I ran the Iron Mask to about 3/4 of the bar being dark and it quieted down a good bit, but in doing that do I lose alot of depth? Is there a better setting adjustment to help in this matter? Please help!!! I came away empty handed after an hour or so. I only got a couple iffy signals that turned out to be trash. One was a lead battery cable end and the other was an old pipe clamp.I also got a couple hits that read 28 and hit the pointer in the upper right of the screen, not in the far upper right but in the white part of the screen and they both turned out to be very rusty iron targets. I can't wait to get in a cleaner Civil War area and dig some DEEP relics!!!
Thanks, Tony

Still being lived in or lived in till recently? those are the most anoying sites.. but you can get stuff from them.. if its that trashy with non ferrous stuff try using a pattern.. or better yet keep digging the junk targets till you get to some good ones.. most of my sites are so quiet know I almost welcome a junk signal <IMG SRC="/forums/images/smile.gif" BORDER=0 ALT=":)">

if it's just coins and other non ferrous items you seek try running the machine in Ferrous mode that way all non ferrous items will generally have a higher tone making them easier to identify. also don't be afraid to back your sensitivity down (15 is not uncommon for me at some sites) and if you have the 8" coil to use it instead of the 10".

You have some good ideas here from Stick.
If it is coins you are after than try making a pattern in the edit mode, but first I go to the learn mode and black out the whole screen. Now go to the edit mode and use the large cursior and start on the top right, push the button for accept and run it accross the top of the screen untill you get to about 1/4 inch from the left. Make sure you take it out of the accept mode and go to learn and use the medium cursoir with sensitivity at 1 and learn the nickle. Now go to ferrious tone and up the sensitivity to maybe 14-18 semi auto and go to the smart screen and start swinging the coil slow and listen for those high pitched repeatable signals and those that start low tone and go to a high tone that are repeatable from more than one way.
Good luck as I find this will take care of most of the items that are not coins and yet you still will get the depth on any coins close to junk. Being the top is opend up that far you will hear some low pitched of bigger iron where as in conduttivity they would be high pitched as coins will be.
