Explorer vs CZ70

RLOH

Well-known member
I just picked up my third Explorer this week and have hunted for 8 hours with it and made some pretty good finds considering where I took it. I went to a spot that routinely produces some Barber and Indian heads. I didn't find any of those, but I did end up with 10 wheats, one merc, one silver roosie, and two Buffalo nickles. I don't think that I found anything that my CZ70 wouldn't have found. I really believe the depth on both of these detectors is a wash. The weight of the Explorer is still as I remember, HEAVY. I have never had any trouble pinpointing with an Explorer, but the Cz is simple and foolproof. The setup on both detectors is easy, but a new detectorist will find the CZ to be much easier. I really thought I would want to have an Explorer sitting around just in case I needed to make some great finds, but it's going to be hard to sit the 70 down and leave it home. I guess the quest for the ultimate detector is what we are all looking for. One of these days, I'm going to stop looking and be satisfied with just one detector that will do it all. I am no beach hunter or diver, I hunt for coins and for that, the CZ 70 might just be the best. Just a couple of random thoughts R.L.

Coil for coil...my cz70pro is just as deep or deeper than my SE. The only difference is that the SE ID's a little better to me. I will always have my cz70 with me no matter what comes out.
I have hunted with a cz since the cz 5 and 6 came out. They are deep seekers but they do like iron....but Heck if I can pop out a barber dime from 8" to 10" with the cz70...I'll dig some iron every now and then. Once you get down that deep it's usually a crap shoot anyway. The id usually isn't dead on with ANY unit at that depth and you as the hunter need to decide whether or not to dig anyway. If you want to find those deepie silver coins...then odds are you will dig some trash and iron too...at least I do. Every now and then however...I'm rewarded with a nice silver coin on edge or next to iron etc.
The CZ's a great machine and can pop out a deep silver coin with the best of them.

Both are good units with their plus and minus features and many do well with either..I have used both and a CZ70 will surely dp the job in a user friendly fashion, while the Explorer gives more info and has a learning period for most. I can think of several more units to add to the mix that would give either of them a run for the money(no pun intended). My advice is to learn your detector well and a CZ70 sure is a good choice..Useless to compare as some prefer red chevies and some blue fords but in the long run both will take you to your favorite hunting spot and use the detector of your choice and I have used them all and when I hang up my boots a CZ will go down as my favorite but the same scenario is certainly applicable to about 5 or 6 more units at best..and new units hit the bricks every year...
