I finally contacted Minelab when I was out detecting in the bush with my mobilephone and explained what the machine was turning itself on all the time now. sometimes every 5 minutes. So its off to minelab to be checked out. Anyone else got this problem

Hi !
Not the same, but the opposite problem. After using my Explorer XS over 300 hours in the field without any kind of problems, this evening I was out searching ploughed fields with my mobile Telephone activated with hands free set. The Explorer turned it self OFF and then started again 40 times within two hours, some times each minute !!! Coul it be caused the mobile Phone ???
your sincerely

Hello Dag,
That, TURNING IT SELF OFF, happened to my Explorer as well. You may want to try this.
Firstly try another battery , like maybe the alkaline battery pack.
If that is NOT the solution then disconnect the coil and wait and see, at the point that this problem is most frequent, if it still turns itself off.
If it dose NOT turn itself off then, you may wish to try another coil. If after you have tried another coil and the problem is still there then,I can tell you that at this point, from my little expereience, it is most likely that the internal power supply circuit is faulty.
It can be repaired and cost me about US$70.00 dollars to have Minleab do it prompltly. I had to pay as I voided warranty before it ended.
I am sure it would have been covered under warranty if it still existed.
Have a good one.

Got both your problems OFF and ON at will even when its laying on the couch or in the field. Useing X8coil with X1 probe.switch to X5 coil, same thing, switch to stock 10.5, Same thing, remove X1 probe same thing. Switch battery packs same thing. Tried rebooting as with XLT still nothing, just a mind of its own. Exspect it to leave the house and go digging on its own. Only got about 40 field hrs on it. Any help or sugestions would be appreciated.

Snook, ya might check your batt pack. If u r using rechargeables, make sure they are in correctly. Another biggie......make sure the rubber trapdoor is shut on the XS when u have either batt pack in. One more thing.. u might have one bad batt. Check with a meter if u can on each of the individual 8 batteries in the back up pack. wmike

Tried what you said Mike,no luck. Called KellyCo & Minelab both said the same thing enternal problem send it in.Got it boxed up and ready to send in the morning.Glad I got my XLT for a back up. Thanks for your efforts
