Explorer SE

I just got a explorer SE, I need HELP on pinpointing can someone Help
In ware the target is under the coil???? MickFin, Thanks

I have used all the Explorers and feel this SE is the easiest to pinpoint with the VCO pinpoint. As you know it is the Double D coil so the coil is hot from the tip of the coil to the heal of it which makes it different to pinpoint with than a concentric coil. The hot band is about a inch wide and probably 8 inches long so when I pinpoint I sweep over the target side to side by about a inch or 2 while I bring the coil back to me trying to get the edge of the target. Now to be on the safe side I will push the coil forward and backwards without going side to side to make sure the tip of the coil is on the very edge of the target When I do I find the target will be now between the very tip of the coil and the center of the coil. I will also many times if I have a little problem or if it is weaker signal I will visualize where it is and come from a different angle to make sure it is in the same spot when I pinpoint again.
Now if the target was a surface one or one that is not that far from the coil you may get 3 signals when you go over the target in disc as the edge of the coil could be picking up the target too, so just lift the coil a little so you only get 1 signal.
I also recomend the Sun Ray X1 probe as it makes finding the target so easy so you can find more targets and deeper ones.

Hi Rick, So if i get a consentric coil wiLL it pinpoint better????
N are the round coils as good as the DDs, Thank you, Mickfin

Read the manual which gives one method and also as Rick ND says his method works for me...Get your self a large piece of carboard and start with a half and work down to a dime..Simply lay the coin down and move the carboard around and after a while you will be right on when you stick a sharp object thru the carboard...Surely not the same as a coin in the ground but raise the coil a bit to simulate depth and it will give you a start in becoming proficient...

The only Concentric coil I know of for the Explorer is a Excellerator 8 inch coil. I just got one last fall and only used it a little bit, but I would say it may be a little easier to pinpoint with. With a little practice with the stock coil I think you will have no problem pinpointing.

Rick

Thanks Rick for your reply, So you think the stock coil wiLL go Depper?? Did you get it for trshy spots?? So what kind of practise?? with the stock coil for pinpointing?? Thank you Rick for your time, Mick,

Just listen to rick n.d. he knows that machine like a book and is good buddy of mine. :hot:

Exp II or SE - almost the same. Necessary to connect the brain. Mine started more or less well after 1,5-2 years of practice + constant reading this forum.

Heard some rumors of an Explorer 111 overseas but just rumors..I know Tesoro does have an overseas version or two. I would doubt Minelab not selling the newest version in U.S. because of the large market of course frequencies could come into play with FCC rules reguarding the use of frequencies in U.S.

I am looking hard at an Explorer. Would someone please tell me the big difference between the Explorer 2 and the SE. My dealer has both and would be about 300.00 less for the 2 than the SE. Just wondering if the difference is worth 300.00 more. Thanks.

Will the method of using a piece of cardboard work with the SovGT:confused: Or is that a stupid question:yikes:

For any unit for that matter...Certainly not perfect especially when raising coil to simulate depth but practising in the back yard will make you more efficient in the field and allow you to get targets with minimum damage to the ground..Efficient neat retrieval of coins will sure get you invited back to those good places...

I do not have a backyard (live in a condo,:ranting: What a mistake,other story:rolleyes::rant:) :nopity:

But i do have a balcony I wonder if I took a couple of 2x4 pieces of wood and then got a piece of cardboard or insulation and then placed the coins under it and used the sovereign flat up against the cardboard if that would simulate depth. I have scrap lumber and that other stuff.

thank you much for the ideas:clapping::thumbup::beers:

That would have steel rebar in it. If it's a wooden balcony does it have nails?
Just curious, as both would affect the process.

The way they built these condos  I would venture to say no to rebar, maybe to nails. The Balcony is wood. And the patio is concrete but can venture to say that for sure there is no rebar in the patio.
