explorer se with pro coil problem????

New member
I have a explorer se with pro coil and have been having some problems after running for at least a hour it just goes crazy with all tones and the courser is stuck in the same spot really seems like it is running very unstable than I shut it off and turn it back on and it runs very stable again .I made sure the coil is very clean nothing between the coil and cover any ideas should I send in the unit thanks for the help

I suspect you use max sensitivity ,manual. if not change coil to any other FBS and test if your pro coil is bad, and if its falsing and you will decide to throw sell it to me. I am looking for one for my project, but before change to other coil reduce sensitivity and check it, can be EMI if you use it in city. good luck Stasys

Does this happen in clean areas... or fairly trashy areas?
Have you checked the connections where the cable screws onto the housing?
Are you noise cancelling when this happens to see if that helps?
What types of sites is it happening...city...or country.

I was using it in the city so it may have been emi.I also noticed when i use my pistol probe it would go haywire and i noticed the button was sticking on my pistol probe so that might have been the cause.I recently went to Missouri deer hunting and hunted a local park 3 days for a total of 6 hours and never had a problem.I also found my oldest coin so far a 1902 barber dime and also a 1911 wheat penny.I also have a x1 probe that i bought used but i like the depth of the pistol probe better so when i decide to dig i turn the x1 probe on and the se doesn't go nuts from the pistol probe than when i find the target i switch back to coil and everything seems to work with out any more problems.getting cold now so i will have to wait till spring to play with it again thanks for the help Darren

i got rid of my pistol probe cause it worked so badly with my se just made it go nuts even after noise cancle went garrett pro pointer much nicer opeation

Those hand probes are like having a PI detector right next to you. I havent had a hand held yet that didnt create EMI and i have to move my detector at least arms length away from me. Might be a battery connection needing cleaning as well. Like was said... change to another coil and see what it does. The area you were hunting in....have you hunted it before? did you have problems? If you havent hunted it could be underground wires.

I read on another thread some one had problems with interference emi because sof pistol probe. I personally think the inline probe is the only way to go. you cant only use probe or coil one at a time and besides that its hard to lose. lol

All my problems were with using the pistol probe caused the explorer to go nuts.I have a x1 now but like the pistol probe better as it has better depth. All I do now is flip the switch to the X1 probe and use the pistol probe the x1 doesn't get the emi from the pistol probe soo alls well thanks for all the info take care,Darren

One other thing I'll add, though snagglepuss it sounds like your problem was the probe, is that I read that taking off your coil cover and cleaning it out is good to do occasionally, as particles in there can get "magnetized" and feed back through the coil, causing falsing/chatter.

I use the SE Pro and the Uni Probe head phones and probe, and have the problem when the probe is turned on.
I have adjust the probe to make it quite and move the coil as far away from the hole as I can.
Also the 11" coil seems worse than the 6x8 SEF coil.
And some times, the EMI from the probe comes back, I will have to check this part out, maybe doing the noise cancel is whats cause's me to have to re-adjust my probe.

Also, one time my Explore ll with SR X-1 probe went nuts, after checking several things, I pulled the upper rod out of the head, and the coil was plugged in,,but the nut had came unscrewed, and when the nut was screwed back on, the Explorer ll was back to normal....

[size=large]i've noticed latly my se goes a little squirrelly around my garrett probe. it would seem to depend on what's in the hole. the probe goes nuts sometime also. once again though it seems to depend on what's in the hole. otherwise my probe and my se work together nicley.

i also have ocasinal interferance between my garrett and my se turn pro pointr on noise cancel se runs fine but most of the times no troubleat all between se and garrett pro pointer a great combo no extra weaight on my se
