Sorry. my first post said explorer 2. Its a new se pro. Also i found indian head pennys and zinc pennys read the same 07-25 during air tests.
Is this what i can expect in the field? Thanks again for any response. Im sure there will be more questions in the future.

Indian heads are kind of all over the place based on how long they been in the soil, depth, and those 1864 and earlier arent made of the same metal. Most of mine read 7-26. They jump around the deeper they are so if they are close i dig.

The thing about indians is...they are usually deep...not always, but usually. If you get the combination of deep and the right conductive number zone then you're more likely to have an indian.

Not to dis the number readout but I have to say that the sound comes first with me. If i get a good sound in there then I look at the screen and if the cross hair is moving AROUND a spot I know is a penny dime quarter whatever... the cross hair may or USUALLY jumps to it or from it (the xy coordinate) that im looking for then i dig a little and check again or circle a bit and see if I can narrow it down. The easy targets will hit pretty much on but over time I have learned the numbers I cant really put all my trust in but the sound and range of crosshair movement (or number) give evidence that adds up. Hope that helps... if you had years of the whites machines like me this was a hard habit to change looking for the right numbers... but I find lots more stuff not restricting myself to the numbers and looking instead at the area or pattern of area the cross hair gets to. That is if im in old and deep territory. On the surface down 5 or so inches you are ussually right on. good luck.

I've found Indians from the 1880s at no more than 2" deep. Normally you would just assume that is a zinc, which is why they were probably still there - people assumed the obvious. Never assume, I guess is the moral of the story.
