Explorer SE Pro Depth

Member
I have had this Explorer a month or so, I run it in factory preset mode only. The depth is never anywhere close to what the detector says it is. Usually half or more. The sensitivity runs around 22 all the time. I just turn it on and press the noise cancel. Am I doing something wrong or is there something else I could do.

Thanks in advance
Denny

you have to change the sensitivity, top button on left raises it, bottom one lowers it, middle one changes from manual to auto. depth is supposed to be accuraste on coins but i have found them not to be as deep as it says.

I only see this on the EXII when it's dry ground. Also, if you blow the pinpointing by a couple of inches, you have to add that to the actual depth....so a 4" coin that you miss by 3" from the center of the pro coil, will show 7"... at least on the EXII.

I bought the explorer se pro this past march, i owned the explorer 2 for 5 yrs before that to me the se pro is not as good as the explorer 2, i think the 2 is more acurate. i was told the se pro has a quicker responce i didnt see no difference. any way i sold the se pro a week and a half ago, and bought another explorer 2 this is the detector im staying with

Couple of things changes the readings... your swing height, failure to center the target, size and angle of target. Mine seems to work best on targets deeper than half way... on say a target 7 inchs deep reads pretty darn accurate and those are the targets im watching for most of the time. If you arent talking about the DEPTH METER and were saying the SE isnt go deep then you havent learned yet what those deep targets sound like or they just arent there where you are hunting. I agree if you are in manual sensitivity you may need to bump up your sensitivity a bit.... to say 26 or 28. I hunt mostly in manual 24 but it depends on the site and what i run into. I also have my gain up to 9 so i still hear the deeper coins at somewhat of a modulation. Try using factory IM instead of the coin program. Like opening up semi auto sensitivity it gives the machine a little more leadway to id the target... because most deep coins other than silver ARENT hitting in the expected area on the smartscreen you may get when airtesting. I dont think there is anyone who is every satisfied with their machines depth or TID.... its a part of the hobby. However, the Explorers are some of the deepth machines out there. Ive never changed machine without having my finds dwindle for awhile. Do what i do... NEVER SELL A MACHINE UNTIL ITS PAID FOR ITSSELF. If you do that then you know it just wasnt for you. HH

Factory presets are not the path to depth. Push your sens to 26 manual if its reasonably stable, limited descrimination, check iffy targets in iron mask with the zero descrimination (e.g. all metal), gain 7, dig solid, take a day and dig nothing but solid deep targets. If shallow tiny targets start fooling you raise your coil, you will lose the signal on a true deep target raising the coil a couple inches, a tiny shallow target trying to fool you that its deep will still be detectable.

You didn't mention if you were using the stardard 10" coil. Another thing that will cause inaccurate depth readings, and has been discussed earlier this year on this forum, is a coil that is not the standard 10" size. It seems that with my old XS, the depth reading roughly is proportionate to the coil size; for instance, if using a 5" coil (half the size of the standard coil) a depth reading halfway down the scale is half the 10" coil depth at this point, or 3" instead of 6". That may be incorrect, but it seems like that was the way I gauged things with different size coils, and depths were fairly accurate.

I have the standard coil. Lots of good feedback, thanks so much.

I've never used the noise cancel - no need unless you get a lot of interference in proximity to power lines etc.

I frequently encounter targets too deep to dig with a smaller spade.

I have an SE and an E-Trac...You need to get outta factory pre sets and set the machine up for your conditions/area..Read the manual a few hundred times and read these forums/watch vids on youtube..You will see what the other folks are running and modify it to your Hunting style.Factory pre sets Never worked well for me at all.You have a killer machine, you just need to get used to it..Be patient, you will start getting better results the more hours you put in digging.HH

Making your own mods will make it go deeper? What a machine....
Ok this is what worked for me when i started my Se..and I stress worked for ME..It may not for you,so plz keep an open mind to all suggestions....Try iron mask 23/24 ,Auto sens 25-26...ferrous sounds... threshold tone:1 Var:9 limits:8 ..Worked good for me to start..I eventually started using ALL MEtal all the time everywhere..Thats when my finds with the Se really started getting good.Rember each site/location is diffrent, you need to be flexable.with that set up ,iron will have low tones u cant confuse with other metal..The good stuff is high and flutie..nickles/gold is a tad lower..Good luck HH

well here is what i run i had too get out of factory preset as far as sensativity goes i have a explorer xs and let me just say wow i have tried running auto sensativity maxed out but soon lowered it too a stable setting i usually run in all metal mode/no iron masking unless theres alot of trash then i use iron mask im always switching back and forth iron mask too all metal it seems too help with not digging iron signals i dig 10 inch holes and man i have too say after a few of those you feel it but i have found some really nice finds in those deep holes so always run sensativity as hot as you can as long as it stys stablethose deep signals will show
