Explorer SE for relic hunting

colonius

New member
Hello, I have used the explorer 2 & sovereign models both for mainly coin hunting & have never used anything that compares to minelab in that category. My interest now is primarily relic hunting. Have considered a new exp. se. My question......how does it perform for relics?

[size=large]i for one don't relic hunt. if i did i'd start with my MXT PRO then try my AT PRO. then i might try the Minelab SE PRO. the fact that nobody answered your question just might speak for itself. the ml se may not be a very good machine for relics. i know the whites mxt have very good reputation for relic hunts. fisher might be good also. i just don't hear as much about the others as i do the mxt. i do know my ml w/ 8x6 is great for deep coins.

sorry i missed your post earlier i use my se pro at old cellar hole sites all the time it finds relics just fine also great on old copper coins and it works the iron very well at old sites if it beeps i dig cause anything could turn out to be something good thats just relic hunting to me

What I am about to say does NOT, in ANY way, imply that an Explorer is not a "capable" relic unit, as teleman just attested to.

HOWEVER, I think most folks consider Explorers/E-Tracs TOP NOTCH units for deep coin hunting -- and thus, they are very popular amongst coin hunters. Most relic hunters I know, who are STRICTLY relic hunters, opt for other machines, which may do that job a little better than an Explorer. Thus -- there is likely a lack of pure relic hunters on this forum to answer your questions...

I agree ... Any relics that I find are simply by chance ..

I tend to believe that at first you will dig a lot of unneccesary targets using the Explorer until you get used to the (relic) tones, if there is such a thing. Who's to say it would'nt work for you I guess. Everybody is different. But, there are many other detectors that are better suited for the task.

just to add in again ive found many what i call nice relics old flinklock parts brass inlays 1800,s leather punch hand forged small brass girls hand mirrow steel heel plates many 1700 and 1800 colonial buttons crouto bells brass horse collar rings old axe heads hores shoes colnial kniefs and forks and spoonsand ofcourse many old hand forged nails but they are also nice too find as they let you know you are digging in the right place belt buckles shoe buckles and muzzle loader lead balls late 1800 shell casing,s the list goes on and i keep a good recovery pace with my buddies dfx and my se is better then my xlt on relics the se goes deep runs great in the woods i mostly run am ferrous sounds sens 28 manual no emi in the woods i hunt no power lines at these old colonial cellar hole sites so you decide are the explorers good relic detectors i think yes they are

I relic hunt with my E-Trac and also use a F-75 SE. You can hunt anywhere with the ML and get good performance on relics. Now the snap crackle pop machine is very good where there isn't much EMI. Your Explorer is just as deep as anything out there just play with it and find out what works best in your dirt.

Explorers are Very good, but for better result use response Long its will help to dig bigger size iron.
Now you have explorer so why you need another one? do you think they are different? :drinking:
