Explorer SE Emulator???

grover868

New member
Hello! This is my 1st. post. I am new to the hobby, and very excited about receiving my Explorer SE Pro next Monday, well according to UPS estimated date. I figured, why not buy a great machine from the outset.

My question is about the emulator. I am able to find the E-TRAC emulator on minelab's website and minelabowners forum. Is there an emulator for the Explorer SE Pro? If so, where might I be able to find it?

I've been reading the classroom and Explorer forums for about a month now, and I thank everyone for sharing their knowledge and tips. I look forward to becoming an active member, and hope I don't test everyone's patience with my future questions. Chris

Hey Chris --

I'm the same way; trying to read all I can, and new to Minelab machines -- just got an SE Pro about a week ago. I also ask a ton of questions -- like you. I have been told -- and am about to do it -- that it is a MUST to buy Andy Sabisch's book -- the Minelab Explorer & E-Trac Handbook.

Also, thanks to user bbqman on this forum, I was given the following link -- this will help with your questions about the emulator, I think...

Hope this helps,

Thank you Steve, this is exactly what I am looking for. Thank you.

I bought my SE Pro from Kellyco, and was surprised to see they include Andy's book with the purchase. From all that has been said about Andy's book, it was put on my list of stuff to buy, but now I don't have it. YEAH!!! Are you finding it to be helpful to us newbie's Steve?

I will be leaving my machine in the factory settings, as suggested by many, while learning it...but I must admit, I am foaming at the mouth to try Bryce's settings.

I also bought the 10x12 SEF coil, and cannot wait to do an A/B comparison test. Chris

Chris --

I don't have Andy's book yet. I felt like reading the manual, and getting used to the settings on the machine, and then hunting a bit to get used to how the machine acts, might be a good first step, and THEN read Andy's book. I felt it might make more sense to me AFTER having just a bit of familiarity with the machine, as opposed to before. I felt it would be too "over my head" if I read it before I even had my machine -- as much of the Minelab-specific terminology would likely have been too unfamiliar to me (iron mask, nulling, etc.) for Mr. Sabisch's words to have made the proper impact. I will buy it very shortly; glad to hear that you have a copy on the way!

I also have my machine in factory defaults, except for some tweaks on volume settings, etc. Given that I've only used other non-Minelab machines in the past, I find myself in a period right now where I'm trying to get used to the "personality" of this machine, and so I am really understanding why Bryce and others say "just leave it in default for awhile." I saw one long-time user on here say that the time to know when you are ready to start tweaking the settings is when you have begun to "have fun" with the unit, are comfortable with it, confident in how it works, and all the "anxiety" regarding its capabilities is gone. That's what I'm going to keep in mind.

As for the SEF vs. stock Pro coil, I'll be interested to see what you think, once you have gotten used to the machine and have used both...
