Explorer SE acting up a bit...

Last night as I was hunting I noticed that on almost every high coin hit the SE would bounce to a nickel tone unless I had the coil directly above the target. Even directly above the target it would bounce to a low tone once in a while. I have never noticed this before. I was using my standard setup of Iron mask set at about 1/8" wide, sens 32, using the Sun Ray 8" coil. I returned to a home site that I found thirty wheats in a quarter of the front yard. The coins are from two to six inches and really hit hard. I found an '81 IH, a silver rosy, a '40 merc and about 15 wheat backs - I remember the merc did the low tone bounce as did most of the wheats. I guess I better check my coil cover, but I just put a new one on a month ago. My battery was getting sort of low; maybe that was it.

Anyone have a similar problem?

Thanks and HH - BF
