Explorer SE accessories

Hello Kim......not sure about the Detech, but the Coiltek coils will certainly work. If your probe is the Sun Ray X-1. it will certainly work. Basically any thing that worked with the earlier Explorers will work.

The X1 probe may work from the XSII, but the XS is different. I haven't seen a SE yet to know for sure on the X1 probe, but know the XS and the XS II are different upper shafts.
I am hoping my first shipment comes in within a few days as it was sent on Sept 7th by UPS and being they don't work on weekends I hope to have them later in the week.

Hello Rick......you are correct about the shaft, I was referring to the probe itself working. I confirmed that with Ralph at Sun Ray. Of course, if it's on an XS, it would have to be remounted to the SE shaft.

I don't know of anyone that will switch the X1 probe from one shaft to the other and think if you send it to Sun Ray it may cost almost as much as a new Probe would cost. I have been recommending a person use their X1 Probe off the XS II as the extra black shaft are not available yet and send in the new black shaft off the SE and have a new X1 put on, then sell the XS II with the X1 or sell the X1 by itself when the new X1 comes back on the black shaft for the SE, you will have full warranty too. Those that don't make a difference what color the shaft is can use the X1 they have on their XS IIs
Those on the XS shaft are the ones that will just have to buy a new one if they want a X1 probe on their SE.

of the big advantages of the SE is its ease of pinpointing. If you really need the X1, you could drill out the 2 pop rivets and reinstall on your new shaft. I was thinking that one of the real advantages of the SE would be not needing the extra weight of the X1.
I'm sold on the SE but will probably use a smaller coil.

just "general" pinpointing, but IS pinpointing those coins at the bottom or on the side of a 10 to 12" hole that the Explorer coil can't hear any more.

I still will put on a X-1 probe so not to scratch those deep coins on edge which sometimes pinpoint wrong, maybe if I used a regular size shovel to dig then I might not need the X-1 probe.

Anyone can find the general area where the target is,but the X1 probe gets the exact area. I don't know how many people I see without the X1 dig and dig trying to find the target. Do we go deeper or dig out the side of the hole as the target may be on edge. Sooner or later they may find the target, but have a deep or a very big hole while those with the X1 have found the target and back looking for the next target.

I think you will have to cut the new shaft for the cable to fit though plus unsolder the end that goes to the switching box and re solder it again on the new shaft. I know many don't have a extra upper shaft for the XS to replace the one with the X1 on and there is no new ones available either from Minelab. On these i feel unless you kept the old shaft for a XS you will have to sell the XS with the X1 probe on it.
I know I will sell my XS II with the X1 probe on it and get a new one for the SE unless the person buying it don't want the X1 then I will sell the X1 separate and get a new one for the SE as I am sold on my X1 as I know what it has done for me.
