Explorer scores silver!

Charles (Upstate NY)

With my surf Explorer finished I decided to lighten up my landlubber machine and improve the balance. Last night I hooked up with Ed and Butch at our favorite local park for a side by side comparison and field test.

Ed has a Explorer XS, Butch has the Quatro, we found the difference in weight and feel was considerable so I'm quite happy with this effort.

The I proceded to take out about 2 months of pent up detecting engery on the pounded park (its been raining here for like 5 weeks straight) and had a bit of luck.

I got on a nickel hot streak to the point that Ed threatened to squeeze in for some bottom feeding as he needs a silver war nickel for his club scavenger hunt.

Here's a closeup of the barber, she was hiding 10 inches down, I had Ed come over and check the hole, the probe was fully buried and then some.

Here's my Explorer with 1/2 pound of ugly cellulose removed and a link to some additional pics.

Nice looking dime Charles. I went back over to the park this afternoon after coming up empty on silver last night and managed a buffalo and a v-nickel still no silver. You two make it look to easy.

Sure is awesome to find coins like that in great condition after all these years. I like what you did to the Explorer! It looks like it is more sturdy and lighter as well. Congrat's on your finds and your custom Explorer as well.

Silver is hit or miss there. Ed and I were back there this evening. I'm not sure what Ed got but I hit the small bandstand again really slow and managed a 1864 pointed bust IH, an 1864 two cent with a nice patina, odd since they are usually crusty, and a 1900-s barber dime though very worn.

Looks like you found yourselves a bit of a hot spot if I do say so myself. Congrat's on your 2 cent piece and the Barber and the older Indian Head. Keep them coming and hope to see a pic of them soon.
