Explorer S

Just looking for some opinions from anyone who has experience with the first explorer model, what are it's strengths and weaknesses. Also what vdi#s are mostly good targets, whatever advice you may have would be much appreciated. I have a buddy who owns one and is still looking for his first silver, I own a whites xlt, we hunt together and would love to see him find some good targets. Thanks H.H. :help:

The automatic noise cancel. You had to pick which of the 11 channels you wanted to use manually. Seems like there was something on the editing it couldn't do too.
Everything else is the same. Same depth, same 2 D discrimination/ID, same double D narrow signal going into the ground. Great machine!

Explorer S good like the rest explorers. Targets VDI the same like the rest explorers too, look other explorer posts about it. Good luck

Thanks for your input guys, he has been hunting in the smart find mode, I also noticed he swings his coil super slow,he says he read to swing slow somewhere. Is there a tone I.D. on the explorer s to signify coins in higher vdi range?:shrug:Thanks

Real slooow, Compared to my swing speed ... but the xlt is supposed to be swung fast.I really wish I could be of more help to him but i've only been doing this two years, with no experience swinging minelabs. As soon as the weather breaks we have a ghost town to check, maybe with more reps he will be ok.Would you suggest the smart find mode for a newbie? Thanks!:detecting:

Guys -- am I mistaken, or didn't the S model only have ONE VDI number (a CO number, when in digital mode), more like a Safari? I know it has the smartfind screen, but in digital mode, I was thinking you ONLY got a CO number, not the FE number...

That is true Steve, I was so used to watching videos of guys running EtracsI was miffed by the single digit read outs... I guess the single digit readouts cannot be a definite cue for a good target 100% of the time. Are there multiple signs to watch and listen for to deterime weather to dig or not dig i.e. icons tones vdi# etc.

Yep, as NealNoIN said, dano, I'd be hunting smartfind if I had an S or XS...many people do ANYWAY -- though I personally hunt digital screen on my SE Pro. However, if the smartfind screen was my only way to get the digital AND the conductive info (as is the case on the S and XS), I'd MOST DEFINITELY be hunting smartfind...
