Explorer newb question....

I hate to break up all the fun and frolicking with a question, but as a new explorer xs owner/user I've found a lot to like about this detector. My question is: to those who have owned both a xs and exp. II, is there a big enough difference in performance/user feedback to warrant me saving my clad to buy one? I really like the xs, but I work a lot so I'm not a daily detector kinda guy. I fall more into the weekend digger category. (and unfortunately not even every weekend!) As a side note, I'm very appreciative to the owner of this web site and to the contributing veteran users for the free sharing of their hard earned knowledge.

I did some checking around on some other forums. Our "very own" C.C. says he prefers the XS, perhaps he can explain his reasoning.
On the same thread there were 2 hearty endorsements for the faster software, faster recovery, and slightly more programmability offered by the II version.
Given your statements about being a weekender and not having all that much time to detect, I'd say save your clad, but for whatever technology best suits your needs by the time you have it all saved up.
As for rushing right out and getting one now, I know I wouldn't. What sense would it make to have even marginally improved features if you never get a chance to use them. Besides, your XS is one heck of a machine, it's not like the II is going to blow you away.
Expect candid replies from me, I am not a brand or "latest-greatest" bigot. I will however dig for information I don't personally have, and subject that information to a "sniff" test before I post it.
Perhaps C.C. can explain why he prefers the XS "for the sites he hunts" as he posted elsewhere.

it's just that I've never used one and as a matter of fact, never even had a minelab until I got this xs. The "guts" as Dan-pa puts it have indeed impressed the daylights out of me. Unfortunately, I get the "itch" to know if what I'm using is on par with what else is available. I've got a long way to go to learn all the xs is telling me since my hunting time is limited. That's another reason I appreciate all you folks telling it like it is.
Thanks,

Basically the 11 model has improved plastics for the black armrest and improved plastics and design for the new black lower pole. Have to mention no need for a sunray stand as Minelab has built that in along with the 1/4 jack.Threshold can be set finer to your hearing and it gives you a Conduct and Ferrous number in the digital screen along with slightly faster software. Will it go deeper run smoother in bad ground( I doubt it)...You have the specifics so its your call, but my XS serves me well, but have purchased a black armrest and also a black lower pole which I feel is an improved design..

plastic too. I got it from a great guy who has always traded me top notch equipment. If I remember correctly he said he had the troublesome stuff replaced. I know that I can find no problems with it.

Pretty simple. It's what I've used for quite a while and believe it's better than the two for picking small buttons out of iron. (what I hunt) I did have a II but now believe it was likely a defective unit. I do have a friend who hunts the same type of sites I do and he has been an Explorer user pretty much since day one. He has both detectors and the II collects dust. Every year I get together for a few hunts with a couple EX2 guys so this time around I'm going to borrow one for a few tough targets and see how they compare.
Well that's about it and detector comparision is something I likely won't discuss much on these boards anymore. It was fun for a while but now I'm bored of the same old crap which never proves anything anyway.
