Hello,
Recently posted a pic of my Explorer with a differant shaft and battery set-up, This morning changed to a ligher version and loss a few making it ligher even more.
I also want to thank those who posted below that thread and Thank you Charles for the kind words from an e-mail, You're positive feed-back encoureged me to change the battery set-up "again" to a much lighter version. The batteries are housed inside the SunRay stand with quick release to pop in a fresh full charged set within seconds.
The unit now feels as light as a kid's BB gun with any size coil even with the Sunray probe mounted on board.
Thanks again for looking and happy trails,
Paul (Ca)

Hi Paul,
Looks great!!!! Did you stick with "AA" batteries? I have been using 10 Duracell "AAA" 750mah NIMH's (12volts) in the power packs that I make for my waterproof Explorer. They are much lighter than the AA NIMH's and I have never had them run down during a hunt. I usually hunt between 4-6 hours per hunt so I know they will last at least 6 hours starting on a full charge. Just a thought on a way to shave off a few more ounces. One other thought. I don't know who's Upper Shaft you used but the Upper Shafts that Tesoro used/uses on thier Lobo ST is by far the lightest of any S-Handle that I have found by a good margin and I have been using them on the units that I have been building for the past 3 years.
Again great job on your Explorer Paul!!!!

Still using the AA battery set-up but do plan on going with the AAA batteries, The shafte is off a CS-6 which is sturdy and light weight. Could have gone with a ligher shlaft buy the cam-lock on the CS-6 shaft convinced me to stick with this one.
To be honest if I make it any ligher it won't feel balanced as this is the perpect set-up for my hunting needs.
Currently the rechargable batteries I'm using are getting more then 10 hours per charge, These batteries are from my Infinium LS. Luckly my Infinium came with two sets of rechargables batteries.
Thanks again for the kind words,

It's amazing how much stuff we accumulate and then just mix and match things until we get them the way we want them

Light and compact.
How about making it shallow water submersible? Not for diving, although that would be nice. Just so it would survive a tempory dunking. Should be easy enough with what you have there......
Have you painted the X-1?
David Di

Thank you David,
I could easily make it completly submersible but already have my waterproof Sovereign and waterproof GoldQuest to tackel the heavy surf or deep diving, I'm burned out with converting detectors to be waterproof To be honest this set-up with the Explorer is perfect for inland searching as now I only search beaches, demos and older areas of 1800's.
The X-1 appears to be painted black but is really masked with tape to protect the hair line crack on the shaft of the X-1, Boy you've got keen eyes to have noticed the X-1 probe.
Thanks again Hardnose and Happy trails,
Paul (Ca)
