Explorer is not perfect

Hello!
Once again a little desperate with my Explorer.
This past weekend we went out to a place with many rusty nails and even we clear almost all the discrimination running in 16-18 sensivity with different coils 14"-8" I found many difficulties making many targets. That same day a friend was using a old Fisher 1266 with 12" coil and he did not find that problem. This had happened other times with tiles and ceramic as well as nails always getting better results in this conditions.
I start thinking in change to a Fisher to avoid this situations.
Their any solution to this matter? Fisher goes better not being affected by Iron?
Please ask for your advice and if their any way to fix this.
Thanks in advance
Regards

If the place was trashy,,,,,set your Iron Mask to about 8 and listen and go super sllloooowwwww. Use the small coil if u have one until to become better at listening for the targets. Been there, done that. Later on, u can take the stock coil and kick some tail. Just listen for the high tone and then glance at your meter, then later on, u will be able to listen and follow the crosshairs all over the place. I don't find as much clad as my partner, but,,,,,I find more older and deeper valuable coins. The rest is up to u. Good luck! If u are brand new with the Explorer and running 16 sesitivity, then I would say u are real good. U will become better after "learning the sounds" and then opening up the sesitivity to 16. wmike

You were in a VERY trasy site. Run in Iron Mask -10 to -8 and run you discrimination in manual and turn it doooooown. To like 8-10 or so. Also use the small coil for better target/trash seperation and work slow.

Fishers are known to love iron and ID many of it as good targets, so it may not be effected by iron like the Explorer will be as it hates iron in the setting most use. Now running with a open screen (iron mask on at a -16) the Explorer too will see all the iron and can see the good targets too, but you will have to go slow and listen for the good targets. I would run a -14 myself in iron mask and turn the sensitivity down even more to a 12-14 in manual only and never use auto in trashy area. I would also use a smaller coil to, a 5 inch or a 8 inch depending on how trashy it is.

I be sending you a gold coin to stuff in your mouth!

I have been have heck in high trash areas this XS is way to powerful and I have tried everything except get myself a 5inch coil.I lose thresh hold etc.I did the battery reinstall trick and it seemed to help but I still have to becareful on the sensitivity level.I have to run at 8 to 10 just to keep an even thresh hold.I know alot of guys own several detectors I like the big E but I have to say it is not ment for high trash areas unless one enjoys spending five minutes in the same spot trying to find that coin in the trash one swing of my Compass and boom I got it.it picks the others up to but pounds the good signals out,not twenty musical tunes..lol...It just works in certain situation over the others like others work better in other situations.I am trying to get ahold of Dick from Minelab to find out more I e-mailed Mike Moutray even, waiting for him to get back to me.

Sometimes its typing too fast others just being stupid. Bottom line is I don't give a dam sunshine Just want to get the heck out of the house for once and detect.

Hello and thank sf or the advices!
Normally I go slow with smaller coils with low sensivity but covering no so many land as others
I agree with most of it but going so slow the proportion you find is 1 Explorer - 2 Fisher what make you start getting nervous and loosing confident in the machine.
I think is one of the main handicaps of the explorer need to improve.

What I would suggest if you are worried about getting beat to the punch on the shallow targets (which seems the case hear)is to run ferrous tones with the stock coil, fast recovery, man. sens. 20-26 and iron mask about 10-12. Listen for any tone that comes above the sound or iron (which will be almost like a threshold there is alot) This may let you swing a little bit quicker as the detector is seeing more tagets and deosn't have to constantly adjust. I have detected like this for a few months but do prefer conductive tones. Once you get a good handle on the explorer there is no question you will not be out hunted by a wisher . Just wait until the site has had alot of action and see what detector keeps pulling targets. Trust me becouse I hunt behind 4 fishers on a regular basis and dig lots that they have left behind.

im sorry but the word you are using is not tounge but tongue
