Explorer in heavy rain

Has anyone used this in heavy rain, If so what are some tips to protect the detector?

I hunt quite a bit in the rain, even in a hurricane once <IMG SRC="/forums/images/smile.gif" BORDER=0 ALT=":)"> . in the hurricane hunt I just had the SR cover on the control box and put a bread bag down over the upper arm rest asm and rubber banded it by the grip.. no problems at all... But got caught in a downpour one time and it shorted out, but I wasnt prepared at all. in regular drizzle type rain just the control box cover seems to be plenty.. if you think it might pour, just carry a bread bag along with a rubber band inside your pocket

experienced a lot of falsing, i've noticed it before when the coil gets wet. is this common?
thanks, ron

At least not with mine. I live in Washington state and hunt in the rain all the time. I use the sunray cover on the detector and thats all. If I didn't hunt in the rain I would lose half my hunting time!!

have you taken the coil cover off and cleaned it? some say that when dirt gets wet under the cover it causes falsing, I had that wet falsing problem with one of my coils, but not the stock coil, and none since I replaced the other.. so you might have a bad coil

I have noticed that wet grass, when it pops up in the open spots of the coil, can cause a little bit of noise. I reduced my sensativity a few levels and that took care of it.
Don't know if this applies to you situation, but I figured that it couldn't hurt to mention it.
Tim
