Hi to all !! , before i go hit the sack , i am just letting everyone know i have just joined the forum , and look forward to chatting about this machine , my finds , settings etc , i have changed my standard X2 coil for a coil tech " little joey , 5x8 inch elliptical double D coil , and it has made the WORLD of difference in busy trash full sites , so much so , i could never go back to the 10 inch standard job again !! , it puts so much distance between targets on old house , building sites , that i can detect these sites with total fun , and look forward to every one now , instead of being scared of them , as this form of relic hunting , i believe , is the hardest of all to get used to. I use advanced digital, since all of the coins have an ID number read out , ie a penny is around 00-29 etc,, i can guess allot of them before i dig , or at least get close , this mode i believe is far more useful and ID is more predictable than the quick find chart , that i don't use it for this type of detecting at all , however quick find comes in handy for custom patterns , say detecting for $1 & 2 dollar coins only , at a race track or park etc, or at the beach for gold jewellery , in the gold fields , after detecting Chinese coins , English ones , buttons , etc , i can use digital to tell the guys what they have passed over before they dig it , as , say Chinese coins fall into the 11-01 ish range , buttons are around the 6-9 range and most coins- tokens fall around the 00-29 , 2-28 , 4-28 ish range , give or take some digits here , but the general pattern can be guessed for the targets you know , and of course there are allot of surprises in between , i have some nice finds , and look forward to some threads like this one , by the way my friend uses an old Ground Hog to great advantage , [ at least until he is around too much trash and iron , when you are in the gold fields , this machine can be used quite well , and for buttons , buckles and coins , i don't really think the X2 has any real depth advantage , but the discrimination is another matter !!

Cheers to all

Hi there Wheelbubble ,

Yes it is a 5x8 , Coil Tech in Maryborough [ Central Victorian goldfields ] have them

Cheers Paul.

P.s , went out yesterday with a fellow coil swinger , onto 2 oldish house sites , 1910-20`s , we found 30 coins all up and other stuff , the going was very noisy , Dave uses a soveriegn [ base model] , and found the backing plate to a Cricketers belt buckle , the feature design was missing:cry: , hey whats with that other thread ? , ready for bed ? , hmm,,,

Hey Wheelbubble ,

I just measured the little Joey , and it is actually 5.5 inches X 9.5 inches , :drinking: too much of this lately !!! , 4 of us went up to the Victorian gold fields , and detected a camp site for 2 days , our finds were , 2 1800`s pennies ,2 hapennys ,1 English shilling , and 3 threepence's, 3 Chinese coins [cash] , numerous shirt buttons , mostly Victorian manufacturers , a couple of nice gold fields belt buckle pieces [ not cricketers] . 2 Chinese shirt buttons , 1 Melbourne traders token , and the usually bunch of odd brass and copper bits , shotgun cartridge ends , and odd pieces of melted lead etc.

The detectors used were ,
mine is a Explorer 2 with little joey coil
Greg's is a explorer 2 with standard coil
Dave's is a sovereign
Toby`s is a Garrets Ground hog , [ old i think the second one they made]

Masses of fun all round , and quite a few choice brands of Australian beers were consumed back at the motel , we are quite conscious of leaving the place with little or no sign of us being there , we put all our crap targets into a bum type bag , and ditch them in town , and scrap copper-brass-lead , goes into a ten litre bucket once i have enough i wash the dirt out of them , then go cash it in for more beer at the next trip !!:beers:

Cheers to all .
