Explorer II to SE Pro..

Was wondering who went from the Explorer II to the SE Pro and feel they liked there Explorer II better? That is what I did and my comfort level is jsut not the same as it was with the Explorer II. Sure miss that thing! If I could get the same set up I have on my SE in an Explorer I would think hard about trading it.

I just went from an XS to the Se Pro and really like it. Seems to have a faster recovery speed and better pinpoint (w/o using the button). Also seems a bit lighter, but that may be just wishful thinking. But I still kept my XS as a backup. Anyway, goo luck and HH.

Robo,digginrebel ,

After getting an SE in a trade I , sold my EX2 . I had been using the EX2 for about 2 years . I could not get quite as comfortable with the SE as I had been with my EX2 . Seems like all my iffie and one-way signals always turned out to be iron . I have since learned to trust my SE more and instead of wasting time digging the more questionable targets . I spend more of my precious , limited time looking for more definite targets and better hunting locations and am having a better ratio of success . To me the SE seems to go a little deeper. The pinpoint ( without using the pinpoint button ) seems a bit better than the EX2 (as digginrebel also stated) .
I also found a group of settings in Andy's new Explorer - E-Trac Hand book on pages116-118 by Mike Moutray that are really working for me ( thanks Mike ) . I also found out my preference in coils and stick to them . Most of the time I use the Sun Ray X-8
and If I have a large really clean area I'll go for the Pro coil . I still am getting fooled by iron but not as much .
A lot of guys who had the Explorer 2 go back . A couple of guys I hunt with did well with all 3 or 2 models of the Explorers and are now into E-tracs with no desire at all to go back to the Explorers .
I am now comfortable with my SE ,everything on it still works like new and I really don't see a reason to go back to the EX2 . If I
got a replacement for my SE it would be an E-trac but it would have to be one heck of a deal for me to go thru another learning curve .

And now I have a $1000+ backup detector that just hangs there collecting dust. I really tried to get the hang of the SE. I used it for one year and finally went back to the EII. It was like finding an old friend. The SE lied to me about deep goodies - it said they were coins but they were nails. The EII said they were coins and they were! Still not happy about my SE purchase. Sent it for repair - ML played dumb. They did try their best, but I lost confidence in the SE. I could go on, but you get the drift. Sure the pinpoint worked nice but I never had trouble pinpointing with the XS or EII. My take is that the EII is better at ID on deep targets which makes it the better machine.

Did anyone but me notice that the ads for the New SE at first said that it handled iron better, then later they did not make that claim? That is why I bought mine, sad to say.

HH - BF

I still run the EX II but was looking to upgrade to the SE PRO, now I might be changing my mind and save myself some cash. Is there a difference between the SE and the SE PRO other than the coil and the PRO decal on the side of the machine (different proccessor or ?)

Nope they are the same machine

I love my EXII. I hunt regularly with another fella that has an SE Pro. I can tell you that he digs WAY more iron that I do on any given hunt. If I was going to get ANOTHER rig, not a replacement, I would consider adding the Etrac to the list, but I wouldn't get rid of my EXII that's for sure. Who knows what new invention they will come out with next, but IMHO there isn't anything on the market today that would make me get rid of the EXII completely.
