explorer II settings

heber man

New member
I am a new explorer II owner, would anyone happen to know the best settings for deep and older coins? With the factory settings all I am finding is newer clad coins. Any info at all would be helpful. I have read the manual and still can't grasp it.

Thanks,
heberman

PS...If anyone out there has or knows of an Andy Sabisch book for a reasonable price, contact me, please.

What is more important than the settings is where you hunt for those older coins. You have to hunt a spot where they are. You can find older coins with just about any setting unless you discriminate them out. Your settings should really depend on where you hunt and how trashy the spot is. I used an Explorer II for 3 and a half years and I have had my Explorer SE for a year now. When I started using the Explorer I made myself learn to use the multitones. That was the hardest thing for me to learn about the Explorer especially in the trash. I'm glad I learned them because the tones are great and a good tone is my main reason to dig a target. The digital screen number is my second clue. I'm a relic hunter so I like to hear when I get into and out of iron. I always hunt with my Iron Mask in all metal. I turn the sensitivity all the way up on automatic. I also set my response to deep. If I get into a spot that is too trashy I put my 5" coil on and stay in all metal. You can turn your sensitivity down and turn your iron mask up in trash. I don't because when you go over something that it discriminates against it will null out. I don't like it nulling out (it bugs me and I'm afraid it won't recover fast enough to get the next target). You can also turn the response from deep to fast when you get into trash but the target ID won't be as accurate. I'm sure there will be other posts with settings for you to use. The main thing is to get out there and learn your detector, the more you use it the better you will get with it.
I have a new copy of that book that you can order from my website on my new Explorer Parts Page if you can't find a used copy.
Good luck and get out there and learn that explorer, it's a really good machine!
