Explorer II problems

Trf

New member
I have a Explorer II which is 4 yrs old, bought it used and now its having issues. It started out by going crazy like high EMI but I shut it down took out battery and notice the battery pack was melting and very hot. So I put in the rechargeable one in and after that never wasnt the same. I did a hard reboot which did help some what but still not the same as Im use to. I replaced the coil thinking that was it, nope its not. I did notice that the ground balace is different and acts wierd and fades out. It still works ok but the processor is slow to pick up on smaller objects pennys and dimes,Qtrs or bigger just fine. Is there a number to call at Mine lab other than the one I got 1-877-767-6522 or 888-949-6522 it seems I can never reach them. Thanks Terry

Sorry to hear; a hot/melting battery pack does not sound good. This was your alkaline pack? What type of batteries were you using in it?

Those numbers you have are the same ones I have...not being able to reach Minelab is ALSO not encouraging...

Yes it was the battery pack type and it was some cheapy type AA Alkaline ( Infinity Gold by Rayovac) which I never had problems with before but I did put in some Energizer and it still does it so I through it away and bought a new one off of Ebay. I did go out and play with the Explorer II still acting up aka sinsitivity or grd balance of the 2 isnt working right. So now im back to the old Garret Ace 250 darn it. Any thought be helpful.

I did open it up and clean out the dust and dirt that was in it and also the connecting points on the coil.
Works fine when Pre 1982 copper penny in open or flat on grd. once I bury it in dirt less then 5 " it doesnt register on machine but qtr or bigger works fine.

You gotta get that thing into Minelab. Which, of course, would be easier if you could reach them by phone!! :(

Keep trying, maybe they are closed for the Holiday, though you'd think the phone message would tell you that (you ARE getting a message, aren't you?)

Send an email to this person at minelab's Chicago office.

Ya I left a message hopefully they call back. My thought is can they repair it since its a older model or would be cheaper to buy a newer model. Now if they can repair it, do I just send the top half or the whole complete thing. I really enjoy using it, one hell of a deep finding machine which I love taking to old spot or hunted out sites.
