Explorer II or T2

fg121798

New member
I think they are probably close any drawbacks about the explorer II.
I just bought a T2 and had one before but this one I did not even put together yet and just got it in the mail.
I bought it in haste and don't even know when I will have time to use it but someone wants to know if I would trade it for a EX II.

thanks for any input. What did the Explorer II cost new?
David

You will see some in the $700 range, but I think $600 is more like it. I sold a great E2 for $650 delivered.

The T2 is a great relic machine but I think the Explorers are a bit better for deep coin hunting.

Just my 2 cents

I have a f75 and a ML Exp. and I like the f75 a little better. The warranty is better, it weighs less, you can swing it faster, longer battery life on the F75 and it is better in trashy areas
The ML IDs deeper and works better on wet black sand beaches and maybe in other mineralized areas. Less susepticals to EMF

thanks
I just put it together and it seems light as a feather compared to the Safari and other minelabs that I had but I have not taken iy outside yet.
I had one last year and it was very good-

i have heard from others the F75 (basically a T2 with a few minor changes) cannot compete with the Explorer series. now, i have not used a F75 or T2 so i cannot say so for myself, but alot of people have said that...i've never once heard anyone say that has used both that the F75/T2 is better until now when AUDuke stated that. im not saying one is better than the other but in my opinion Minelab is the best for almost anything ,and i wont use any other detector brand unless i have to! i have used other brands and liked them, but Minelab is top dog in my PERSONAL OPINION!

thanks, Weston

The local dealer that I go to said that the T2 is a good relic machine but not nearly as good for coins as the explorers.

Kind of hard to believe.
Lets see-I had the Xterra 70 and the 705 which some said was no better than the 70---WRONG it was better, not a whole lot but better.
Then I had the safari which was better than the Xterra's and the Sovereign Xs -2 pro which I also had.
The T2 that I already had and traded it last year. I bought this one in haste but let me tell you it is no slouch and is super light compared to the minelabs.
I just liked the Safari the best of them all for what you could do with it..I do believe MINELABS are the cadillacs of the detectors but you would have a hard time convincing me that they are better at finding coins than the T2.
I wish I never had sold the Safari-someone traded the safari with three coils and andys book everything in mint shape for the T2 last year because it was to heavy for them
and I sold it like a dummy. it had extras also. But we all do this and I was on a quest to try everything and find out for myself about detector depth and etc etc.
I will probably end up with the Etrac eventually but somewhere along the line I will probably get the GT first. I thought the Etrac was the best but I see quite a few for sale off and on. OH well, goodluck and thanks for the replies.

the reason you see them forsale is because either 1. people need money or 2. they just cant seem to learn the machine. everyone has their own thoughts and i understand that, but im 16 an have bought my own Explorer II and now i have the SE. i think its just people dont give themselves the time for the detector to adjust with their mind setting. im not gonna lie i started out with an Ace 250. then went to the Xterra 70 it was a big difference. then i switched from that to a Explorer II and the was another BIG change. the first day i used the Explorer II i was ready to slam it into a tree:punch: but i stuck with it and learned what it was telling me. i wasen't long i was digging silver dimes and indians. the moral of what im saying is people just dont give detectors a chance because their so stuck on what they have used for so long! i do believe that the Minelab Explorer series and the Etrac and Safari are the best coin shooting detectors available today without a doubt in my mind! anyone disagrees, hey, thats your opinion and your entitled to that, but ill stick with the Minelab detectors for my coin hunting!

thanks, weston

Weston----You say you are 16 but your statement (and logic) indicates wisdom beyond your years! :) ---You young folks ARE THE future of this fine hobby.----I wish I could have had the opportunity to start detecting at your age (I'm 71 now).---This is a hobby that you can/will enjoy for many years (if we all "take care" of it).------I love your "slogan"--I may only be 16, but I can keep up! the question is can you?----My answer is--with you, I'm not sure I can! (I mean that in a completely complimentary way) :) -----Keep posting, I really enjoy your posts.-------God Bless, Del

Hi
Well I traded for a explorer SE pro.
so I'm back with a minelab.
I know people sell the etracs but not only because they need money and it does have a learning curve but I think also that some people think it is the end all as a detector and there is no such thing and another reason is like me -I like to buy a detector used and in good condition and experiment with it and when i am satisfied I trade it off or sell it and move on to something else..I like the getting to know the detector part and compare it with others I have had. I've had the fishers and the Whites and the Tesoro's and some of them were great but when you open the box on a minelab and take the detector out you know you are with the one of the best made detectors out there.
They look well thought out and the build quality difference is noticed right away. They may be heavy for some but they are worth having.
I hope the SE pro is as good as the Safari I had.

what you said about minelab detectors is 100% correct!!! when you open the box they just look like the king of detectors, and they are! i'll tell you the SE Pro is better than the Safari. i think your going to like the smart screen. avoid using the digital screen and use the smart screen. it will take a bit to adjust to, but it will give you a better idea of what is there...atleast with me...although i do hunt by sound USUALLY! on those occasionally iffy signals i check out the smart screen to give myself an idea on what i am digging. just please give the SE Pro time to adjust with you! it will be hard at first, but it will come to you. you wont want anything else once you use the smart screen on the top of the line Minelab detectors. or atleast thats the case for me. GOOD LUCK!

take care, weston

ok thanks
I take it after awhile and I get used to it I should pick up the 10 X 12 coil-I only have the 10.5 right now.

Here are some of the toys i've had and not all of them,
Started with Whites eagle spectrum, then MXT,tesoro tejon whites XL pro with three coils, silver umax,Bandido II umax, tesoro Cibola, Xterra 70,xterra 705, minelab XS-2pro.minelab Safari with three coils, Garrett1350,
Garrett 1500. Fisher F5,Teknetics T2 (Twice) now the explorer SE pro. You will never believe what was the deepest and nothing came close to it.
I bought a used F5 from the forum and it had a problem with the threshold and I could not turn the sensitivity up or the gain.
I sent it to fisher and told them the soil read 68-70.Not only did they update the soft ware for free but adjusted everything and field tested it themselves and checked it out and shipped it back to me free.
When I got it back I was stunned because I could turn the sensitivity up almost all the way.All the knobs were very smooth and firm.
Problem with it was It said dime and it had a tone I never heard on it before-almost like a fine china ting really high.
I got a signal and dug down almost to the Handle of the minelab digger and started to think it was one of those false signals then I was down the length of the digger. The signal was still there but this was in my back yard and I was determined to dig to china to see if there was something there.
I went to the Garage and took out the spade shovel which is 12" from the tip to the hozzle.
It still gave a signal.
I went down another two inches 14" in all and there it was- Back in the 50's they had snaps for buttons on shirts.some were ivory colored for cuffs .
It as snap1/4 inch in diameter.I couldn't believe it.
I sold that also but the fisher would pick up quite a bit but after 4 or 5 inches it was usually wrong but still if you are a relic hunterman that detector for the price WOW,
Some guys thought maybe it was in the side of the hole but it wasn't the garrett pinpointer eliminated that-it was straight down.I sent pics of a bolt that I dug and some accused me of pushing the digger into the ground..
I still think about getting another F5 but I think they set that one up themselve and for the soil that I had.
See you and good luck.
I live in ny and not far from me is a spot where in 1625 1200 military men and a few hundred Iroquoix indians camped at this site on their way to fight the french army and senaca indians.
I wouldn't even try to dig there and there is a golf course there also.
