Explorer II hits Gold (my first time out)

Well I took the plunge and bought a new Explorer II the other day, wanting to upgrade my old coin detector. The first test drive with this Super Detector had me smiling the whole time I was hunting. Taking it to the beach, my second target was this nice Frederick Goldman 14k gold ring that weighs 5.7 grams. I also found a bunch of coins to boot! Hats off to Minelab. My old Fisher just might start collecting a little dust. Till next time, happy hunting, John

That first one is always a very special find and it's really neat to show it off to all the friends that visit. Nice find and keep; it up there is a lot more to find now that you have the machine for it.

Now you can see why there is so much great stuff being posted on Minelab Forums. Glad you have jumped aboard the Minelab Train and I can tell that you are going to be glad you bought the Explorer-II. Good Luck and HH on your next outing with your new toy.

Andy Sabisch I believe told me early on not to forget not to lift the coil higher then the control box after it's been in shallow water as the water comes down the shaft into the control housing. Not a good thing.

Great first find though... :D Guvner..

Nice find John! I think you're going to really like using the Explorer at the beach. You better be ready do dig some deep holes:). Pick up Sunray's 12.5" coil and you're set for life.

HH Randy

Thanks for all the nice comments on my first Explorer find. I have ordered a Coiltek WOT coil and a Sunray Stealth X5 coil that should arrive any day now. This is the combo that most of the hunters around here are using. John

If you didn't, you will soon realize why I say this. The WOT Coil isn't a light coil by any standard John. It is heavy and if you are planning on detecting for any length of time, you better buy yourself a Swingy-Thingy. Doc's should have them in stock if you need one. I know that if your arm isn't use to swinging a heavy coil for any amount of time, it is going to kill your arm. The Swingy-Thingy is a bungee cord type apparatus that puts all the weight of the detector on your body and it makes it easier to swing the detector for long periods of time. So just check one out at Doc's if you think you need one and Good Luck and HH with your new toys!
