Explorer II & Explorer SE Mobile Phone ISSUE

I own a CTX3030 and two of my friends that go hunting own the Explorer 2 and SE. Yesterday we were out in the fields and one of them tried to turn his SE on. The moment he pressed the ON button his phone rang and when he answered it the detector went all nuts playing all kind of sounds. He then tried to noise cancel the detector and immediately the Explorer 2 became the same thing. Mine didn't get affected in any way. WHAT HAPPENED??? Why didn't mine get affected???

Always have my cell phone in my front pants pocket when detecting. Have never had any issues between the phone and whatever detector I was using at the time: XS, e-Trac, CTX , or X-Terra 705. Must have been a fluke occurance..

There clearly must have been some sort of frequency issue between the Explorers and the phone. Gotta admit, I never heard of a metal detector causing a phone to ring. The CTX has an excellent EMI protection system! It is by far the smoothest operating detector I have ever used or seen in operation.
Like C&RHunter, I have my phone in my left front pocket, on, with no problem whatsoever, when detecting.

It did not cause the phone to ring. That was just a coincidence. It just caused the machine to fail when it rang.

I see now, focus218. Having a phone on your person during detecting while it is on, in standby mode, there is only slight passive EMI coming from a phone. When the phone rang and was then actively transmitting and receiving the EMI would be greatly increased in such close proximity to the detectors. It would be understandable that interference might occur, even if they hit the noise cancel. It appears that your CTX has better, updated, noise cancel circuitry, than the slightly older Explorers.

There is an area on a beach I detect, that has a transformer which is much lower to the ground than normal. It would cause my other detector to go crazy. When I go there with my CTX, I just hit the noise cancel when near it, and it adjusts to the EMI from the transformer, running smooth and quiet. Once again I believe the CTX noise cancel circuitry is as good as is currently available.
