Explorer II Battery Level Indicator Problem Solved!!!

So I got my new SEF 12 x 10 coil today, mounted it on the EX II and WAMMO, the battery indicator light now works!!!!!!! So the problem must be in the FBS 1050 coil that came with the unit. Couldn't be happier:) I will re-check the 1050 coil connections. Maybe one of the contacts is bent. I will also check to see if the battery indicator comes on without the coil attached. I will prob never use the 1050 coil anyway since I love the SEF coils.

Typo; the battery level indicator is obviously not a light as stated above. The odd thing is there is nothing wrong with the 1050 coil either since the battery level indicator now works with either coil connected and also when no coil is connected. So, the battery level indicator not working is a mystery. I hope it stays fixed.

Well after having the detector since the middle of last week the following has been determined: There is nothing wrong with the 1050 coil, there may be nothing wrong with the detector, there is definitely something wrong/odd about the the rechargeable battery pack. The rechargeable battery pack only lasts for maybe 20 minutes after charging for 24 hours. While using the rechargeable battery, the battery level indicator does not work. This would make sense if the battery were not charging and was low. When switching from the rechargeable battery to the AA battery and the detector has not shut down on low battery, the battery level indicator still did not work. This all changed when the rechargeable battery died completely while I was using the detector and it shut down. At this point I put the AA battery pack in, turned it on and the battery level indicator works now. I will not be putting the rechargeable pack back in since the battery level indicator issue appears when using the rechargeable pack. My buddy thinks there is something not right with the rechargeable pack that causes the issue with the battery level indicator on the screen.

You might want to try the RNB lithium-ion battery pack, the really last a long, long time and recharge very fast.
I have three (10 year old) nimh rechargeable batteries that have done their time (they only hold their charge for about an hour or so, and take forever to recharge, the rnb has been a good investment for me.

if you can do it you might want to check the charger. i had a battery i thought went bad so i ordered another one and i thought it was bad. the guy i bought it from checked and the battery was good so he sent me another charger to try and now both batteries work fine. good luck

I opened the control housing up again and carefully checked all of the connections and circuit boards. I found a post that is supposed to be soldered to the board (at end of yellow arrow in attachment). On the board it is labeled as TP701 FREQ. When the housing is reassembled, the post appears to touch/make contact with the back of the speaker. If anyone is able to snap of a close-up photo of their PCB2 in the area of the arrow in my photo it would be greatly appreciated so I can determine if there is something not right with mine. I have re-soldered this post to the circuit board and the detector appears more stable. I will wait and see if the battery issue is resolved as well.
