Boy do those covers really make it hard to see the screen ....I know they protect the screen , I am going to have to get a new pair of eye"s , after looking so hard to see the screen!!! It seems like they would have made the screen part to where it sits really tight to the screen!!! Keep a look out for a flying screen cover...mine might come off in a hurry...Know what I mean!!!

I hear ya BUT have you been following this thread? This will alleviate this problem. The glare is a pain in the dupa (Polish)

A product that protects the screen and cuts the glare would be beautiful. I can't wait to hear the verdict!

I e-mail that guy and he e-mail me back...said he would keep everybody informed!!!
I might be blind by then.....do they make Braille metal detectors?

Not that I'm aware of but I did hear of one that pokes needles in your posterior depending on how the signal reads. The conductive scale stabs higher on the left cheek the higher the signal and the higher the ferrous, the higher on the right cheek. Keeps you on your toes. :)

Yeah, the hoods are frustrating but I use one in the rain, etc.

Try just stretching a flap-top sandwich bag over the housing - it's clear and will protect from rain (and it's disposable!!)

My SE is in the mail on the way to the manufacturer of the product. They will use mine to make a pattern. Somebody from the E-Trac forum sent theirs in for a pattern of the ET. Do a youtube search for ZAGG. There are some demonstrations of the product there. It was originally manufactured to put on the leading edge of helicopter rotors to prevent damage from ground fodder. For those who don't regularly look in the ET forum there are 3 pages of posts talking about the problems of the screen glare and possible solutions. Regards...Jim

My buddy turned me onto a clear contact film he bought. He made a template and cuts the material to fit. It really works well, protects the screen and is easily replaced after a few hunts. Cheap too. H.H.

I don't know if this will help but it looks like a good cover...... anyone have this....

Do these protective hoods have to be fitted at their facility, or is it something that they are making a mold of and we can do it ourselves?

Just curious

Look at the youtube video and it'll answer all the questions about putting it on or off and fitting. The quick answer is you do it at home. They send you the material pre-cut to fit a particular application.(Or one of their distibutors does). With my communications with the manufacturer I have hinted that forum sponsors might be good sources to distribute the product. I have no idea what distibution model they use. It won't be much of a problem for them to be made for other major detector manufacturers. I think they just want to use someones detector to make the pattern. It would be pretty pricey to buy one of everything just to make a cover for it. If you want one for a different model contact the company and work something out. I may send them my ACE 250 and ask for materials for that. They make products for the Ipods, Cell phones, laptops, etc.so they wouldn't have a problem cutting out a different shaped pattern to fit specific applications. Later...Jim

Thanks Grump, I meant to ask in the other thread to keep it going.

By chance do you have the link for Youtube?

Doesn't look to hard to apply

The material I am using is from Manco Inc. and works well. It is a clear contact type laminate that has adhesive on one side. It not only cuts the glare but protects the screen from dirt and scratches. H.H.
