Explorer Help In trash

New member
Hey Guys...Been using the ole XS for 4 years..relic hunting..It's been good to me but I'm in a spot now that's been scraped and is turning up some new relics. The problem is (as is for most of us) is that there is a layer of old house modern trash that is nulling me out of some good stuff, there's probably some buttons there...I am detecting IM 12 or 13 using Conduct sounds. I've heard you guys talking about going IM 15 and using Ferrous.....can I get a tutorial? The trash is typically aluminum can pieces and a few nails of course...

Thanks guys!!

Hangin with the XS vs the SE:)

Brad,
By making the change that you have mentioned will help. Why, Right now if you open the screen the nails will sound like coins.

By changing to Ferrous is will change the tones on the minus side of 0 to a building base tone(like current nickle to tin foil) and the positive of 0 to building high tone(like current pulltab to silver half).

I hope this helps explain the why....

If you need more information just let us know.

Thanks Joe-
Does the same method work better or not as good using a 5" or 8" coil?

Seems that if I go Ferous sounds the high pitched tones are gonna be indicating the same trash I'm having trouble with (i.e. Aluminum, pulls)
Remember, I'm not looking for coils..just the brass and lead...(I have a different machine that I hunt artillery and good iron)right now, I' mjust trying to see if there are any buttons there...kinda like a button program in moderate trash, so to speak.

I know, at some level, we gotta dig the pullys coz they sound too good not to and sometimes they come up good.

The tone change is enough between the pulltabs, lead and buttons due to the ferrous content that you can quickly tell the difference. Pennies, nickles and pulltabs sound similiar in this mode, but the cross-hairs are a dead give away as to the target.

You are looking for the good target comingled in the modern trash.
This holds true regardless of coil.
