Explorer field grounding.

A couple of people posted about connecting the explorer to their house's electrical ground and seeing that the noise and chatter were greatly reduced. I tried it at home and got the same results.
Yesterday, I drove a copper rod in the ground and ran up the sensitivity until it was unstable and then connected to the ground rod and....
Nothing. Didn't seem to make any difference. Was hoping could get the machine to run a bit more stable in noisy environments but on a trial of one this doesn't seem to help.
Will try again at a really noisy outdoor site and post if I get different results.
