Explorer falseing.

Has anyone else had trouble with the Explorer II suddenly starting to false? The last couple of days it sounds like a pinball game even with no targets. I tried resetting it to the factory settings. I tried other coils. Still the same result. This is also on the beach
right in front of my Condo. I have been over it hundreds of times.
There is nothing new about the soil.

Are you sure the coil connection is tight? Also look at the connection from the control box to the shaft. They could be loose. Also, have you had the coil in the water? The coil could have gotten some water in it and you just need to let it dry out. It could also be that your sensitivity is set too high. Are you on Manual or Semi-Auto? And have you noise cancelled? But it sure sounds like you have gotten water into the search coil. You should check the coil for small cracks and actually take the coil off and try shaking it. You may hear water inside the coil. Another thing to check is your coil cover. Have you cleaned the cover out from dirt and sand lately? This will also make your detector start to false. Good Luck and I hope you find out what is wrong with the detector and hopefully it is just an easy fix. Good Luck and HH.

I had the same problem in a field that I have hunted many times with no previous problems. All my setting were identical to previous trips, but the machine just went bonkers and started chattering non stop. No matter what I did it didnt seem to help, Noise cancel, reset factory settings, remove & replace batteries....NOTHING helped. And I dont hunt with a coil cover, so there was no dirt or water related problems. I ended up hunting the site with my Tejon that day instead, and havent been back since, so I dont know if the situation has corrected itself or not.

If it is a place you have detected before and were able to run at a high sens. There might be a chance that there is some new source of electrical noise but most likely it is some thing else.

As James says the coil connection is the main suspect. Try putting on a different coil and see what happens. I had a bad connection once and it made the explorer go nuts at any site. Ended up removing the coil connector and cutting off an inch of coil cable and resoldering the connnector on.

The only time that happened to me was infront of a graveyard along a road. Bing bing bing bing, I left and never went back there. The problem never really happened again but I switched to the larger coil after that and now I am using the platypus, The stock coil has been pretty much collecting dust since then. Maybe it was the connector? It still has me wondering.
On the lighter side. The ground here was hard and dry. You could not cut a plug. It would just crumble. Not no more!
4.5 inches of rain today from 8 am to 3 pm. Its wet now. More to come tonight and Friday. Saturday I am hitting the old school house if they get out there and cut the grass. Found a bubble bee nest in the grass last night. BZZZZZZZ back away slow....

Jimb,

I've only been working construction sites most of the summer. Right in front of my house in fact. And now it is a muddy pit.

But haven't found diddly. Did get permission for a couple of yards. Told them I'd come back after we got some rain.
