explorer external speaker volume

this is related to a question on another forum. how loud is the external speaker on your explorer? mine is quite faint, but if there's no background noise i can hear it ok. i hunt without headphones sometimes in the desert where it's very quiet - just wondered if my machine is normal.
Ray (WI) posted that it's caused by a faulty headphone jack. i just assumed it was the nature of the beast. just wondering. hh.

I have 2 of them and both are loud but if your running phones all the time I would not care, but you say you go without phones in the desert so my wanna fix it up

wiggle test, when I pull my headphone plug out of the jack I could bearly hear the Explorer, I put the plug back in just alittle wear it made contact and wiggled it and bingo, I could hear it loud and clear. Just sent it off today after talking to Dick Shultz from Minelab in Vegas, he said the new jack should fix it.

see if you can't bring back the volume by just touching the Jack with the plug and wiggling it. I always use headphones and never notice the problem because I never unplugged my headphones, then one day I was showing somebody how the Explorer worked and sounded, when I unplugged the plug from the jack the Explorer sounded off real low. I knew it wasn't right because when I first got the Explorer and was playing around with it testing coins it sounded off just fine, plenty loud. As the summer wore on the volume even through my headphones would cut out, I'd wiggle the plug and it would come back, hope this helps, good luck.
