Explorer Depth

A

Guest
Tested my Explorer against a Fisher 1266X tonight.
1266 got 3 inches more depth on a .58 mini ball and about 1 inch more on a new penny in air tests.
Does the amount of discrimination have an effect on depth? Maybe I am being too selective.
Going to an old school Saturday with a friend to do some coin hunting. Any suggestions for set up?
Thanks

Don,
The Sovereign and the Explorer do not do good on air test as they have to see the ground to compare.
I have notice a lot more depth when running in iron mask mode at a -9 or so. If you want to run a disc pattern I would leave the top right side open 3 quaters of the way accross the screen down a half inch for coin hunting.
Good luck
Rick

Try turning the sensitivity up for the in air testing. From 20 to 28 makes about 3 inches difference.

Try running the sensitivity up to 32 and make sure you are on manual. If you have noise, try a channel change. If it persist, back off the sensitivity a little. This should give you the max depth.

Depth depends upon settings. Try sens 28-32 manual, gain 7-8, iron mask -16 on an air test. I hunt with these settings on a regular basis and dig really deep targets.
Some finds with WOT and depth,
Seated Half Dime - 8 inches on edge.
Seated Dime - 11 inches.
Quarter sized copper what's it - 15 inches
Many many silver dimes and IH's in the 8-10 inch range, I'd say 25 IH's and at least than many dimes over the past 2 months.

You haft to ware earphones when doing air teat with the explorer. You will gain about 5 inches wearing earphones.Dont ask me why but you will hear the differance.
