Explorer cracks

Two of us from Central NY are wintering in Central Fl. and just purchased Explorers. We have been reading about cracks apprearing in the Explorers and would like to know where these cracks appear and what can be done to prevent this from happening. Is this due from user abuse or a defect in material or what?
We both love the machine and have been helping each other with the learning process. Can't wait to get it back north.
Thanks for any replys. <IMG SRC="/forums/images/smile.gif" BORDER=0 ALT=":)">

The lever that is on the back of the housing that you flip to hold the upper shaft in.It is the plastic around the brass pin tha goes through the locking mechanism. It starts out as small hairline cracks,It is a factory flaw, some are hard on their detector and never get them, and I know someone that put their detector together brand new out of the box and watched it crack the first time he flipped the lever. They are working to fix the problem. You couldn't trade me any 3 detectors for mine and I have a small crack.

No crack on mine,) and I wouldn't trade my XS either. HH

Cracks in armrest cup (or outright breakage) and in the lower rod isolater seem to be cropping up to a lesser degree as well... HH, Mike.

Mine is broken now for the second time. The lowershaft and the armrest is also broken. So i have to send the Explorer again to Ireland where they fix it. The last time i had the detector back after only 4 days. The electronic of the machine is great but the housing and all that plastic stuff is bulls... I friend of mine have an Fisher CZ7 and no problems at all. But anyway, i would have another detector than the explorer and i hope that they fix the problem whith the housing (and as long that i don

Go to website www.communityzero.com for the Minelab owners club. They have the most common faults with the Explorer ie: Lower shafts cracking, cracks by the camshaft pin.Headphone sockets, faulty headphones, cracked armrests etc.
Not a good quality picture for a very pricy detector!! However Minelab seems to be taking care of all the problems free of charge. Hope they can upgrade the early models with new reinforced stems.
