Explorer Cracks Found - Now What?

A few weeks ago when I checked my Explorer, I didn't see any cracks. Now after looking at all the pictures, diagrams and descriptions posted on the problem, I looked again and sure enough... cracks have formed right at that brass pin. This has happened with hardly any use at all.
So my big question is this: What now?
Does MineLab have an e-mail address where we can officially notify them of this? Are we supposed to call someone to tell them of our own problem? Somebody on one of the many messages said Minelab now has a fix for this problem... so are they really now fixing this problem for current owners or just updating their manufacturing process for future Explorers? Has anyone actually had their detector fixed by Minelab yet?
Sorry for all the questions,... just trying get a summary of where we really stand on this problem for all to see.

ED,
Minelab is aware of this problem and i understand they will be repaired with the new plastic.
This dosent affect the operation of the Explorer, so i would just use it untill the rod wont stay tight or untill the end of the season so you wont have to go without the detector for hunting then send it in to be repaired as it will be covered under warrenty.

I have heard the same thing. Apparently the Guvner has an inside connection with Minelab so he should notify us all when the fix is available.

Hi Ed, I have two explorers, my first one has a small hairline crack thats been there from early on and really hasnt gotten any worse. still holds tight and I int sending it in till I know they got a real fix ir it breaks, but dont think thats gonna happen soon... if it makes it till next winter ok, I will send it in rehgardless.. up to you but I wouldnt worry too much, still havent heard of a case where the crack made it impossible to hold the rod together...

Some folks may not be able to get their detectors back to MineLab within the two-year warranty period. When and if the word gets out that Minelab is repairing/replacing cracked housings, they also may be swamped with machines to fix in the "off" season. Has MineLab issued any statements that they will extend the Explorer's warranty, at least for the crack fixes?

My worry is not about the Explorer falling apart, I don't think it will do that. I'm only concerned whether or not the problem will eventually be fixed by MineLab. It would help if they 'fessed up publically and issued a statement regarding what they're going to do about this fix. I know they would not like to publically admit something is wrong, but an honest and open approach on this will gain them a lot of respect and confidence.

Ed,
If it is a normal warrenty than it is 2 years and being the Explorers have only been out little over a year we still have a good 9 months left if we want to send them in as like I say they dont affect the performance of the detector. I do feel like the Garretts GTIs with the bad loops that Minelab will replace the housings even after the warrenty has expired. This is just my opinion and what i have understood by talking to Minelab about this, but it isnt in writting.
I also feel that if these detectors had their warrenty cards sent in that Minelab knows who has bought them and may send out a notice to people to check them for cracks as they wont want detectors with cracked housing out there, that too is my opinion.

i did speak to mark at minelab about the crack on my 3 month old exp xs that i have not even had out of the house yet. WINTER IN WISC>he told me that if the crack makes the unit unusable to send it back (to his attention )and when it is repaired he assured me that it will never crack again. so ovviously minelab does acknowledgr the problem and they seem very cooperative in regards to fixing it.also it seems that everyone is making too big a daeal about this . i have a garrett gti2500 and had too send 3 coils back, had it repaired twice and it is not even a year and a half old .FINALLY GARRETT GAVE ME A BRAND NEW UNIT:::: now that seems like a bigger problem than some crack that people cant see unless they use a magnifying glass everyone seems to love there exp xs so lets stop all the winning .
