Explorer Coils

I'm considering buying a new coil for my Explorer II. I want one that will will be compatible if I upgrade. I'm using the standard coil ( the 1000 ) and I want a more sensitive coil. Any ideas?

Sunray makes some nice coils for the Explorer. SEF coils are another option ... I use the 10X12 SEF, which is a bit heavy but very stable. And it loves dimes ! I also use my Sunray X-8 quite a bit for "brush hogging", a lighter 8" coil that will sniff out silver just as well as any of the others. Good luck !

I'm another that uses the 10X12 SEF coil. Like McDave says, it loves dimes, and deep silver. It will also fit the Explorer SE, and Etrac.

I love the Minelab 8" DD. Its actually 7 1/4" inches so the separation is outstanding! Good depth as well!

Sunray has a really good 8" coil and its very deep. I did a lot of researching on it before buying a used one. Every person felt it went deeper than their minelab 7.5". The pro coil is very good for me too.

:detecting:Hi! I am also wondering what coil to use on my Exp ll. Thinking of the WOT. Mostly beach hunting in the water. And if anyone has a suggestion for settings. Not sure if I should do less sensitivity and more gain or the other way around. I think I've been reading too much, I guess. Finally found a 10kt. ring. Yea! But I think I am maybe missing a lot. Thanks, everyone!

I would recommend that you consider getting either the 4x7, or the X-5 if you aren't looking for greater depth. The stock coil you have is fine. You can get more depth, but at the expense of target separation in cluttered areas. On the other hand, the smaller coils will expand your areas to hunt, to include really trashed out areas that might not be able to be hunted with a stock coil, or people with larger coils have hunted that area, and the amount of trash nullified the sweet targets. The small coils would allow you to hunt scraped lots, closer to fences, between heavy trash items, etc.......

I would further recommend that you set aside a bit of money each month, and buy several coils over a year, complete with lower stem. Just my $.02 worth

Thank you! But I forgot to mention that I need a waterproof coil. I love to work in the wet sand and shallow water! Any advice?

Most all the coils are waterproof. It's the detectors that aren't so NEVER let the coil get above the control box as the water will run down the inside or outside of the stem rods between the control box and the coil.

11 inch Explorer SE Pro coil is the king on saltwater beaches, the WOT will false quite a bit, you will have to back off the sensitivity and invest in IcyHot and Ibuprofen for your arm, then you will have to keep the WOT level as you swing, tip the coil at the end of your swing and it will false, reverse the direction of your swing too fast and it will false. That said I have a theory of when to use the WOT on the beach and what to look for in particular but have not tested it yet.

Here are some Explorer SE Pro coil finds, note how small some of these targets are in comparison to the dimes.
