Explorer and the sun

I hope someone can help me. I have been using my explorer for about 6 months and have had very few problems, but now that summer is approaching I can not see the LCD display. I have varied the contrast and still no help. I live in Arizona and it would be the pits if I could only use the detector during the winter months. Is a hood or some type of cover made for the summer sun?

Pogo,
You aren't wearing polarized sun glasses, are you?

It gets kinda tough in the sun...I go by sound a lot, so it doesnt bother me too much. I have the older lcd screen, I hear they changed the color of the later models to help this out..

Some have used a PDA screen protector to take some of the glare from the screen.
I wish Minelab would make the screen similar to whites as far as the visibility.

A friend of mine also has a White's and has no problems with the sun. Sure cuts out the detecting time, especially while he is digging and I am stuck with just tones.
