Explorer and the "I"

Hi Brad, that's an interesting button. I have an infinity for buttons! Got a nice little collection. Is the star on it an emblem of the state? How deep was it when you dug it up?
HH Angela:)

Angela-
The star is the emblem of both Texas and Mississippi...These were worn by state militias before and early in the ACW. This particular is listed as a Local in Alberts and is considered a more rare version of the Infantry button (hence the "I")
I dug it in a small Miss. camp where I've dug 1 US buckle, another US early war buckle that had been chopped in half and a Plain face Noble bros. GA rectangle (also early war). I suspect the guys were issued CS marked stuff at this camp and discarded the US and Plain buckles. The button however would have just been dropped as they hung on to their state stuff as long as possible.

All the relics in this camp have been in the standard 5-8 inch range.

HH,
Brad
