explorer 2

Just got my new explorer 2. Sweet! Could someone tell me if it will be able to tell the difference between a dime and a penny. Air tests show the numbers to be the same.
Pennys from 1963 to 1982 and all dimes show 03-28. Will this be different in the field? If so how? Live in central Wisconsin and wont be able to get out for quite some time yet.
But am sure enjoying playing with it in the basement. Any info or advice would be a great help. Thanks.

Always a lttle bit different than with the air test. Listen for the sound difference if you can here a difference in the sound that is my best way. But nothing beats in feild experiance. good luck.

By using the smart screen and using the cursor, you should be able to tell, I use smart screen and if curious, will go to digital to see the number, then back to cursor....I find Indians can be distinguised by cursor location and by digital #, they are on my XS 24-26.....but other pennys cannot be distinguished by digital # from a dime....both are 28.....dimes tend to be a higher tone, and tend to ride higher on screen and further to the right then pennies....

In order for me to get the best tones for seperation of diff. coins, I had to sit down and airtest coins...at the same time as setting my TH.Tone(5), Limits(10) and variabilitys(:geek:....That is best for my ears....what yours will be, only you can determine that by adjusting those audio settings, just by changing by one or two #'s the coins change tone....try it...and get to know the coins by tones....and if you can tell the diff. from a penny, dime, and silver dime or silver quarter, then you have got it set for your ears....good luck. Also, you will notice that by using say....3 diff. headphones, each set will make your tones sound different....so try to stick to a good set of headphones and set your tones, using them....

On my SE, dimes tend to bounce more to 4-28 or 6-28 from 3-28 while copper Lncolns tend to be more solid 3-28.
