Explorer 2 'The British Rip Off'

I have a question to anybody who has an answer, especially to all those British Detector dealers and Minelab (Eire). I see the price of the new Explorer 2 in Britain will be Approx.

Over here we call it price fixing. Ever notice gas prices in one town may be ten cents per gallon more or less. Dealers set the price and you pay or do without, same with detectors. Look at the prices for the top models in all lines, then the mid priced units, then the low priced units. It strickes me as funny that all the brands in the same ranking are within a few dollars of each other. Price the explorer, the dfx the garretts 2500 ect. Kind of strange seeing as how they all use the same basic circuitry and are just an improved version of past models. Look at the soverign. Add a built in screen and you have an explorer. Change the chip or add an extra circuit and you have an xs 2. Power output is limited by law, which means the only way to get more depth is a better reciever or coil. How many people ever use all the features of a detector? It is just a prestige thing to say I have the newest. The ex1 has the same capabilitys as the ex 2 and a whole lot cheaper. I doubt any one with an ex 2 will find more than they did with the ex1. Hope I am wrong, will wait and see but I for one will keep the ex1.

I go along with lilfox. I don't see anything at all worth while to upgrade my XS1 for. A guarantee of more depth would be the only worth white reason that I could see.

My previous post should say worth while reason. Not worth white reason. Sorry bout that.

the Explorer2 is a good machine but i agree with some of the others here. Give it a few months and see how others are going with it. Rite now ill keep my XS for the time being. No doubt ill upgrade by the end of the year but theres a lot of research to do in the meantime...the double ID feature of the XS2 is great but XS users can do similar..its called listening to the sound.. The price of the XS2 in austrlia is like ~$1800

I kinda know what you are saying hardnose but I meant it in a differeny way. By the way I was not against the ex, I just happened to get a bum one, got rid of it and got anouther ex used that worked right and I do like it, it is a good machine. What I meant in my post is no matter the company they all seem to command the same price for their top line machines. My ex new cost 900.00 dollars. I bought a new DFX just recently it was 895.00. Going by the prices in our local shops the garretts and fishers run about the same. Maybe I should call it price matching instead of price fixing. Just seems strange they are all priced about the same. As far as the ex2 it is very similar to the way my dfx works with the matching numbers. My smart find screen does the same thing it just doesn't use numbers. I only go by sound anyway so the numbers or cursor do not really matter to me, at least it doesn't seem to affect my finds. My DFX is an excellent machine also, it is not quite as deep but is faster machine than my ex although it is harder to learn. Personally they all need to make them go 2 feet deep and show a picture when you turn them on. Enjoy your post, happy hunting to you and by the way save a few of them nuggets for me, I plan on coming down under in a couple years, maybe look you up and have you show me the ropes, go on a walkabout.

I also agree with Chuck and Peter. Lets give it some time and see just what this #2 explorer will do. For one thing the dual digital would not do any thing for me. I use the smart screen and listen to the tones. If I wanted to look at numbers and little pictures on my screen I would have bought me another Whites.I find it hard to believe that there is a machine on the market that can out do the explorer no matter how many bells and whistles they put on it.

The Brits have import taxes on most of the stuff coing from other countries. It is a form of protection to keep forgien cars and other items from flooding the market. This drives the costs up and keeps people from buying because of the costs. This is a government problem and not the fault of Mine lab or other companies.
