Hi everyone, I'm new here and have a new EX 2 SE. Ive had my new machine out for a couple of weeks and found newer clad lots of dimes and pennys and quarters. But nothing earlier than 1964 on the pennys and quarters and no nickles what so ever.My question is : What manual settings do you leave on or turn off? Like leave screwcaps turned off for wheat pennys and indian heads? I live in Michigan and the ground seems to be stable enough to run the sensitivity right up there and I have the deep mode on and fast off. threshold loud enough to hear, Iron mask off gain at 8 . stock coil. Also, what would be a good trash setting? Thank you for your time, Easymoney.

Turn your Sensititvity Down if you have it higher then 18, You see if you have the sen to Hi
and the ground is Hot ( Hi mineralization ) the signal wont absorb in the ground ( go as Deep) Your ground is different thats what everbody talks about,
Experiment a bit, Mickfin

I live in Ind. our ground shouldnt be that much different. There is a disadvantage to running to much sensitivity... like hot rocks and deep iron. Iron will null or desensitize your coil and reduce your depth until it resets. I run mine about 24 manual. I run a gain of 9 but thats my choice, 8 isnt bad because you still hear the deep stuff with a bit more modulation so you can tell the difference between shallow and deeper targets. I prefer IM about 28... but ive been doing this awhile and can pick out the good from the bad tones. For the most part starting out 22 IM is fine. I personally dont disc those bottle caps i know they hit at the lower right side and occassionally older deep nickels will hit way down there. If you are in trash ... you might want to turn on FAST and deep off. Personally i have them both off all the time. I just dont like the way fast chops the tone and deep hasnt proven to make much difference since i run gain at 9. Learn to push you coil along dont swing it like most of the faster recover machines. Thats the big thing you have to get used to. Also the explorer dont like a lot of air between the ground and your coil.... keep it on the ground. Hunt with someone who knows your area with a little experience at finding deep targets and knows a good location for older coins. You have to do your research..... i mean a 1968 park may or may not have older coins.

Hey guys ,thanks for the replys, I'm going to try it in IM 28 and back the sensitivity downa bit.How can you tell when the ground has high mineralization in it?Anyway, I find a good setup I'll let you know. I have a Whites spectrum xl and the spots I hit, I went back over with the EXP I found alot of clad the spectrum missed. I just need to tweek it and get deep. Thanks again, Easymoney.

one way is you just arent getting any depth. Also you get a lot more falsing or nulling. You might also get those pesty 00 31 hot rock tones that land in the far upper right corner. I think you will find the explorer an improvement over your XL, i know i did over the DFX..... but it takes time before the light comes on.

Hi Easymony, Ok find a clear spot (no targets) Go back to the Detecting Mode lower your sensitivity way down Listen to your threshold ( the hum sound)
start pumping your coil and N down and rays your Sens until you start to hear the threshold cut and out at this point you can lower the sens back to wear you had a smooth threshold or just leave it a little Hot, This is how i set my sens , to all readers is this right???? If you have a better way let us know,
Ths prosesor wont work as hard and the Smart Find wont hang, Mickfin,

Im not exactly certain what you said there.... but if it works great. I think im doing the same as you.... i just watch the cursor if its not moving because of all the targets i lower the sensitivity and slow down until it does. But what ive found is less is sometimes more. I normally just run sensitivty at 24 manual an it works in most of the places i hunt. Otherwise i get feedback from hot rocks and deep iron which leaves me digging shallower targets. Ive notice most of the experienced hunters run less sensitivity than you think and are digging deep targets. Those that are using higher sensitivity seem to run lower gain. Good luck Easymoney.

I'm headin out the door right now, I will let ya guys know how it turns out. It rained yesterday and we got about an inch of badly needed rain so mabe that will help too. Easymoney.

dewcon4414 Your way achieves the same results , It sounds easier though??? Think I will try it your way next time out, I use the Explorer II with the Pro coil,
Mickfin, Happy Easter,

Hey I just got back and the results are, I quarter 2 dimes and 5 pennys. Running the IM up to 28 almost put it up to AM mode and I set sensitivity at 18 and I started to hear lots of tones and it locked on a dime signal then a quarter then I got interupted by some guy. I got more time today so I'll be headin back out. Good luck all.
