Explorer 2 air test

I know air tests can be misleading but yesterday I had a chance to air test four different coils Wot,Joey,8" and 10" minelabs.I started with a state quarter all had similar results (6to7").Thin gold bands tested at 4 to 5".The 8" seemed to be slightly more sensetive to thge gold than the other three coils. Sens was set to 25.My question is "do these results sound about right for air testing?"

How were you doing the air test? waving the coin in front of the coil inside?
The best way to get accurate results is to do the air test outside with the coin on the ground, then swing the coil over it and lift it up. I can generally get a digable signal on a quarter 13-14 inches with the stock coil. to get a good repeatable signal on the deepest hits requires sweeping the target very quickly with very small left to right sweeps.. wiggling the coil we call it.. works that way in the field as well.. you get the initial hit then do the wiggle over it to see if it remains constant or gets better

I did the test both on the groung and on a peice of clean wood held off the ground about 1.5 ft..I did not get anywhere near 10" depth with these tests, however I did dig a 67 quarter about 11" down on wet sand today.

Nelson, put it in iron mask -10, manual sens at 25, recovery fast and deep both on, gain set at 7 or 8, then air test it with a quarter on the ground like Jim said above, you should be able to pick it up at the depths Jim talked about, I can, give it a go.
