explorer 11 or sov.g.,t.

hiya guys,,,ive only used the sovereign g.t. and still do ,but i was considering buying a used explorer 11 ,,and was wondering if with the standard 10 inch coil on the g,t, and the standard coil on the exp.11 would there be any advantage in performance or other atributes the explorer may have over the sov.g.t. ,?????,rgds

There are probably advantages to having the meter. Better discrimination settings and better target ID. Depth will probably be about the same. Give or take. But this is the Sovereign board so you know which side people are going to come down on. As another detector in the stable sure. To replace the Sovereign. No way. Now if someone was to offer me an SE Pro as an even up trade I might go for it.

hi i used a ex11 for about 6yrs and in that time it found me some great coins/rings and artifacts but in the end the weight got to my elbow so i bought a sov elite. since getting used to the sov sounds i'd have to say theres little to choose between them other than the ex11 has a meter but for depth and target seperation theres not a lot in it i'd even go as far as saying the sov is better in amongst the iron.

Comcat,I have used both detectors. The Explorer ll is deep with the stock 10 inch coil.On real deep silver the Explorer has the edge. The Sovereign will find silver missed by the Explorer and vice versa.Still very deep silver is where the Explorer shines and have even found IHs missed by the Sovereign.Precision, balance and overall performance goes to the Sovereign. It can get very uncomfortable using the Explorer for an extended period of time or days.If you get a deal on the Explorer try it out,but I would hang on to the Sovereign. After using an Explorer for a couple of weeks it always increases my appreciation for the Sovereign.Good Luck Ron

I've owned Explorer IIs and I like the Sovereign better. For me in my soil the GT goes deeper and has a more stabile ID. My GT has got me plenty of coins that I missed with my Explorers in areas I had gridded with the Explorers before. The audio of the Sovereign is also much better and it's for sure a less picky machine in terms of setting things like sensitivity.

thanks ron,and all the other guys for your input,,,i love the sov.g.t. and it gets it done,,thanks again,,rgds :ukflag:

Having tone ID in all metal for me gives the explorer the edge as i hunt in lots of iron, otherwise there isn't much in it if you know your Sovereign well

If you like to hunt in a lot of iron trash for good targets we been seeing the E-Trac doing real good and picking coins out with nails more then ever before.
I have both the GT and the E-Trac and seem to grab the GT more when I am able to hunt, but that could be I have used the Sovereign more and know it well so I can do better with it for the time out.

Hey Concatenation, most of the people in forums they will try to convince you that the explorer is a much more better machine. I am an explorer user since 2004 and believe me I am very happy with it and I found thousands of items with her. But she is for me the worst machine in balance. So after all this pain in my arm I decided to buy a new sovereign last year. Since then I never used my explorer again you strap it on your belt and you go. As about depth it seems that they are the same but sovereign is a more conventional detector. I don't say that sovereign is better you get more tones with explorer and you have the display which is a real helper. IMHO take the sovereign an 180 display and you will have a better balanced black and blue explorer. I feel kind of quilty talking bad about my lovely explorer but this is the truth IMHO again.
