EXPERIENCE MXT USERS

I am looking for a second detector for coins, relic, and shallow water hunting. I am considering the MXT. Can some experience users give me some advice from their using this machine? Depth, TID, Pinpointing, Successes, Gold and Silver detecting.

[size=large]depth is in the science. the bigger the coil the deeper the depth. the MXT has lots of coils to chose from. then you have to consider your soil and your settings. the mxt has a great reputation in relic hunting. it's marketed as a good all around machine. so it does well for coin shooting. once again the science is the smaller the freq. the better for coins. the larger the freq. the better for gold. as for water sports. as long as you don't drop it in the water it does well. you drop it, it's toast. you might consider Garrett's answer to the MXT and go with their new AT PRO. should be everything the MXT is and water-proof to ten feet. although there's been a lot of ATP drownings since it came out Garrett is solving their problems. i prefer the MXT for balance and got the ATP and found it to be coil heavy. but looking to play in the water with it. there is also less b.s. with the connectors than with the phony Garrett ones. and the MXT has threshold. garrett don't. i really enjoy swinging with the Whites D2 coil. pinpointing depends on whether your using a DD coil or a concentric. the concentrics seem to be easier but once you master the DD coil version you have no problems. just something else to learn. that's my take so far. most hunters feel they've done right getting the MXT. for others it's just not for them. see if you can borrow one or use one for a while. try it on.

Had the MXT for a while and really like it. I really like relic hunting and with the experience I have had with it, I would not feel comfortable with another machine. I know I can count on it. I went relic hunting a week ago in a plowed field, so relics can be deep. I got a good signal but it was deep. When I got to eight inches he wanted to scan the hole with his machine, 'nothing there he say's'. When I got to 10 inches my pinpointer would pick it up. At thirteen inches I got my small target. I won't say what machine he had but it has a real good reputation. It's the only other machine I have considered getting in a while, but not any more. I really don't think I will ever get another machine unless it's another MXT. JMHO

Like any machine, the MXT isn't always going to be the best for every situation. However, that said, I really like mine and have done very well with it. It has very good depth, a great choice of coils, and the tid is as accurate on coins as any I've seen and the thing is built like a tank. Solid machine.

love mine too.... easy to use, on the fly settings, lots of coils, etc. just cant get better (or can it)?

basically the MXT is a turn and go detector with cool features to experiment and to adjust depending your hunting style, but as most of the users you will probably end up using only one searching mode. You can start making finds the same day you start using it, but takes practice to really know the machine, specially if you are a beginner

the MXT is noisy, well built and a bit heavy, but well balanced

I've owned my MXT for 4 years now and love it. To put it in my perspective, over the past 3 years I've also owned a DFX, Etrac and F75, and sold all three of them. The DFX was very good but was no better then my MXT, the F75, just way too much chattering and felt cheap, and the Etrac at twice the cost was far too heavy for long hunts. The MXT is the best TID machine I've used to date, no exceptions. I bought a Sun Ray probe for it and I'm all set. Depth is very good, Coin & Jewelry, Relic and Prospecting modes with a simple flick of a switch are all great to have on the fly.

Hi John, I have found out if the MXT said it was there keep digging for it is there.I have been up past my elbow, and thinking ( MXT ARE YOU LYING ) but have always been something there., One of the best detectors i have ever used, and i have had alot over the last 15 or 18 years..
