I went to try out my Explorer today and after turning it on and going to adjust the contrast, I look down and the screen had gone wacked! You couldn't see the display at all...there were lines and/or a dark rectangle over what you'd normally see. The detector sounded okay. I took the battery out with power on to try and fix it and also just turned it off and on again with battery in. It finally corrected itself but was a bit sluggish (I thought). At one point, I had to press against the shift buttons or right over the screen display (on the Minelab logo) to get the normal screen to show.
Could it be because of the heat? I had it in my trunk while travelling to the hunt site and it was sitting in there in the morning for an hour or two while I used my other detector as well.
Has this happened to anyone else? Anyone know the cause? (If it's a heat related issue, you bet I'll be more careful next time! I need to find a carry bag for it to fit in!)
Thanks!

I got home last night and turned it on...no problems. Was out testing in backyard this afternoon and the same thing happened again after awhile but only briefly. There did seem to be some slight banding. Hopefully not that serious of a problem and I can work around it. I was able to duplicate what it looked liked on Sat. though by pressing kinda lightly in the area of my thumb shown below. Anybody else get that kinda result on screen if light pressure is applied in this area? This is a used machine..about 7mo. old. Maybe it's just a quirk that this particular machine has developed. Everything else seems to be working fine as far as I know right now.
Yesterday, I was pressing the bottom right shift button as I went to adjust contrast when the problem started. Was able to get back a clear screen on restart and even pressing on various areas on display momentarily relieved the problem. There was one point where pressing any combo of buttons didn't bring back a clear screen though.
Anyway, I think it will be okay. Back to learning the machine.

You may be getting condensation in your unit. This is not all that uncommon when I go to Florida. I've kept my detector in the house at night. Then when I go out in the morning to the beach. The high temp. and humidity will cause condensation to form on the inside of the unit no matter how well its sealed. I normally takes about 15-20 minutes for it to settle down. Solution I found was to keep the detector in the closet with the water heater so it stays warm all night. This eliminated the problem. Hope this might help. Good luck.

Had a similar problem with my XS. Turned out to be
a broken pin connecting the two circuit boards together.
