Yes, the S-12 is a favorite among many Sovereign owners. You'll get more depth with it for sure. A lot of water hunters use it. The SEF 12x10 is also popular, and even lighter than the already light S-12 if you take the coil cover off and use spray on bedliner to protect the bottom.

Spray on bed liner for trucks that comes in a can from auto stores. It's tough paint that is hard to chip or scratch and so spraying that on the bottom of the coil (use 4 or 5 coats and let them dry well between coats) protects it against wear without the need to use the coil cover which is heavier so it saves some weight. Also you then don't need to keep taking coil covers off to clean under them, or risk losing your coil cover in the water.

perhaps now i have understood.... you mean a spray like one named Plasti Dip.... http://flymodelcomponents.it/shop/product.php?productid=22764&cat=0&page=1

thanks a lot again :)

No, that stuff I think is for coating tools and such...But I think I've heard of people using it on their coils. Doubt it holds up as well as spray on bed liner for truck beds, though.

Do a search in this forum or the beach forum for "spray on bed liner" and make sure you change the search date to ANY date as it's set to only a 30 day search. You'll find lots of threads on the topic.

Small Brack,is that an Italian Sub in the photo? The S-12 intruder coil for me worked well good depth and easy to pinpoint targets and inexpensive. I see a lot of these for sale at bargain prices. HH Ron

Georgio, According to others that use bedliner, there are some brands that are reinforced with small metalic fibers, make sure that you DO NOT use use those.
I have never tasted food as good as when I was in Italy!
Welcome to the group.

brack, welcom , I have used the S-12 and it is deeper than the stock coil in disciminate in good sand you should get targets at 12" i have some badd ground and the 10" coil went blankat 7" the S-12 got a good signal at 7" it is deeper and mor coverage and really a nice coil hope you lick up some good treasures in rome , Gunn

thanks a lot Gun and ISM..... now i have the intruder s12 but i have to test it on my sov xs2 as soon as possible..... unfortunately i cannot look for ancient romanian treasure because i would go in prison by ferrari (very fast......i mean ).....

yet i don't understand wath you mean for "spray bedliner".... i will look for it again on internet.....

Here's what I'm talking about. You don't have to buy this brand as there are several out there including one from Rustoleum that I used on my coils.

http://www.autobarn.net/duplicolor-truck-bed-liner-spray.html?site=google_base

If you have a local auto parts store chances are they have spray cans on the shelf of this stuff. Before you spray it on the coil spray several heavy coats onto a piece of cardboard and then sweep your coil over it to see if you get any kind of response to insure there is no metal or minerals in it that could screw up your detector's performance. The coil should give no response at all and no nulling either.

To spray it on your coil lightly sand the bottom and sides of the coil first with some fine sandpaper. Then clean the coil with soap and water. Then clean it again with rubbing alchohol to make sure no oils or soaps are on it. Spray the coil with a light coat in full sun on a hot day. Let it dry in the sun for several hours before putting your next coat on. Repeat these steps until you have 3 to 5 coats or so painted on the coil. Again, make sure you let it dry VERY well between coats or it may never harden up properly.

Some people use painter's tape to protect the top of the coil from spray, while other guys just spray the entire top and bottom of the coil, as this stuff looks really good and like the texture of a coil from the factory. Down the road when you notice some of the bed liner has worn off just put 2 or 3 more coats on it.

So if I understand well, this brand (Dupli Color) does not contain these iron particles.

This summer I'm going on a 3 weeks holiday to Florida, and I want to buy some there.

Don't know if that brand doesn't contain metals or minerals. Best way to check is spray a heavy coat on some cardboard and then sweep over that with your coil and if you hear a null or any change in threshold or anything then don't use it! I used Rustoleum bed liner spray. Some of these have zinc in them for rust prevention and you do NOT want that or any minerals or other metals of course. If you search the beach forum for "spray on bed liner" or this forum you'll find the brands people used.
