Hello all,
My name is Joe and I'm from the burbs of Pittsburgh, Pa. I once owned a very very cheap. Radio shack detector. I'd say I must have been 15. Even with the no good machine, I totally enjoyed the idea of finding that hidden treasure. Now 28 I recently have come across KellyCo site, and once again that enjoyment has consumed me. After scanning the site and reading countless consumer reviews and field test, I have ordered my first of an updated, modern and technologically advanced metal detectors. I have ordered the Garrett Ace 150. I still have 3 days of waiting for it to arrive, and I think the excitement may kill me. I would just like to ask, if anyone has this detector and has any tips or opinions please post them. Also any tips from any pros is greatly appreciated. Thank you, Joe

Welcome Joe. I have the Ace 250. And just love it. It has paid for itself many time. You will find just about anything you might what to know on here. Do a search and you'll find just about anything on the Aces. Once again Welcome to the forum and good luck in your hunting and post us some picts of your finds:cheers:. HH Joe

Welcome aboard. You got a dandy machine although I would have chosen the 250 with pinpoint. The archives on this forum are loaded with tips on the 150/250 detectors.

Hello all,
Well I received my Ace 150 on Wednesday. Of course it rained all day. Well after work on Thursday, with the weather threatening to rain again I hurried to the baseball fields close to my house. I spent a lot of time digging up large bottle caps and pop cans, they showed up as coins on the graph. I didn't mind as it was good practice. I did find a quarter, dime, and 2 pennies. Nothing old. I have come to the conclusion that it may take sometime to learn how to manually pinpoint. Can anyone tell me why sometimes I find a target, then sweep the area again and it seems to disappear? Yesterday I went to a spot where in the early 1900`s there once was a community park with a roller coaster, dance hall, baseball field ect. Well after searching the field for 3 hrs. I managed 4 pulltabs. After a little more research I found that the field I was searching wasn't there at this time. The place of the park is now built upon with housing projects. Thought Id share. Off to search somemore. Oh, does anyone use the Automax precision V4 pinpointer and if so how does it work?
Thaanks Joe

Hi Joe!
Don't you worry about pinpointers! Use your ACE 150! It's all about practice! Take a decent piece of cardboard, ask your friend to stick a few coins on it. Now try to locate them using your Ace 150 use cross technique as shown on this picture:

When you think you got it, just stick a paper pin at that place. Then, turn the cardboard up side down to see how close you were!
Good luck Joe!

Panterex

Here's what I do w/my 250 when I don't want to bother with the pinpoint. It's like the "X" method, but I only use the side to side axis instead of side to side, then back and forth. I raise the coil 6-8" inches off the ground and SLOWLY sweep a couple of parallel side-side sweeps until I find the sweep path that gives the strongest signal. On THIS path, on the return sweep I watch the little notched out pinpoint section as I'm sweeping and when the signal comes I "freeze" my eyes on that spot as the coil passes on by. Sometimes I'll make one more sweep to "verify" that I froze my gaze on the right spot. With a little practice, you can pinpoint on the second or third sweep. Of course, tough targets will require the "X" method sometimes. I came up with this in an effort to save time in sponsored hunts where time and accuracy are important. Putting a little paint, like white-out around the notched out section coil even makes it more accurate, as the eyes have a tough time with the black coil. And raising the coil so high takes care of the problem that most Ace users have w/the pinpointing function, anyway. Just reading how to do it makes it sound as if it must take a long time, but after you get used to it, it's really fast-I won a speed hunt using it.

thanks for the tips guys. Ill be going out after work today, so ill give them a try. My automax comes today also. went out yesterday and only got a dime, penny, and a utility knife that's in working condition. I learned yesterday that it helps to turn the sensitivity down a couple notches when theres a lot a junk in the ground. I must have dug 12 pop can. I also learned that when it shows pull tab, nickle, and coin its more then likely junk. Thanks, Joe

The pulltabs and nickels that you dig could eventually equate in gold rings..
