Excellent Weekend

Where do I begin. We had the best camping weekend in a very long time. We met up with Rob (rcasio44) and his beautiful wife Paulette at the campgrounds. [attachment 138602 BestFriends.jpg]

Great friends were the highlight of the weekend. I didn't detect as much as the men did, but I think us girls had the best time. [attachment 138603 Grilling.jpg]

I did bring home a big silver ring with onyx and a few Illinois commercial fishing license tags from 1945. On the way home, Larry and I stopped in a small town. I came home with the wheat cents, 1928 Quarter and then I pulled a personal first out of the ground! The 1858 Half Dime! The Half Dime is the oldest coin to date (by one year) in my collection and a first ! The clad dime is just to show the size of the Half Dime.

Camping trip: $100
Being with good friends: Priceless

Thanks for looking and HH to all,
Nancy

Nancy,

Very nice haul indeed. The 1858 half dime is a beauty. Very clear date and in nice shape. You are probably the first person to hold it in 150 years! Before the Civil War! The 1928 SL Quarter is sweet too. Those babies have a bad habit of having their dates rubbed off easily. Yours is clear as a bell. Add the ring and the fishing license tags and the camping trip and you had an unforgettable weekend. Hope the mosquitoes weren't too bad!

Pete

PS...I found a ladies watch very similar to this one at the beach a couple weeks ago...Unfortunately it doesn't run with a new battery installed. Sigh..

Congrats on the new First.

Thanks Pete. Why did you have to mention those pesky mosquitoes? Boy were they hungry. That's a shame that the watch didn't work after installing a new battery. Happy hunting, Nancy

.......

Your day is coming Rob................

Congratulations Nancy!!! Welcome to the half dime club!! Wish I could have been there...such cool little coins!! Wonder whats next on the 1st list???Happy Hunting!!

Wow great hunt! Super congrats on the half dime, that is awesome!!:clapping:

Great finds Nancy :clapping: SL quarters are one of my favorites. I'm still looking for my first 1/2 dime.Where'd the 1/2 vdi at?
I'm glad you found them:thumbup: I think I'd have to make a return trip;)

Thanks Matt,
I'm still in awe and remembering that exact moment when I saw that little thing. :surprised: Right off the bat I thought it was
a small dime. Then so many things went through my mind. Could it be a play coin? Foreign coin? I took it over to Larry
and showed him. He said, "check the rim". Sure enough, it was a coin, but what? I put it in water
and soon I could see the seated lady. OMG.....it was a U.S. coin. My MXT with the stock coil sounded like it was silver and the
VDI said 60 when I would use my DX-1 pinpointer to see where in the hole it was. That meant better than an aluminum play coin.
Gotta love this hobby! HH to all, Nancy

Bryan, you should be hunting those awesome sites. Thank you for taking us out and about Saturday. We ALL had a good time. HH, Nancy

No it didn't come from the campground.

If you haven't seen my godson here is his picture. His name is General and he is Nancy and Larry's dog and hunting partner. Rob

I'm checking out Larry's Large Cent.

I didn't hunt with the guys in the campgrounds. We had permission to hunt the property next to it and I did find a few things there. No coins though. I love that picture. Too bad I didn't get your face Rob.

HH to all, Nancy

Thanks Steve. Wish you could have joined us. What's next? My goal is a Large Cent even before Larry found his. I never dreamt I would have found a Half Dime. :surprised: See you Saturday. HH to all, Nancy

Nancy,
Since I just read that your goal is a Large Cent, I figured I would show you this for some inspiration
