Excalliber battery

Can I use the new excalliber 2 battery( nimh ) in my excalliber 1 ? If so does the excalliber 1 charger work ? ,how long to charge ? Also anyone have any tips when using wot coil with excalliber ? what are the probable settings etc. -thanks

yes the battery is interchangeable and according to minelab you can use the same charger as the excal 1 to charge the nimh excal 2 pack . although minelab is wrong about the nicad charger being the right charger for the nimh packs. i bought a excal 2 recently and it came with a excal 1 nicad charger . i have extensive experience with these types of batteries as i have been racing rc cars for over 20 years and nimh cells have a different charge profile. they have a different peak voltage cut off than nicads and they are way more sensitive to heat than nicads also nimh has a different internal resistance . so even though the nicad charger will charge the nimh cells it is likely that the nimh cells will suffer in the long run . but its a good way to get you to buy more cells from minelab. you will still get more than 100 charges out of the nimh cells before the damage is noticeable , but you should be able to get 3-400 charges out of the same cells if you use a quality nimh peak charger . with 10 cell capacity as the minelab packs all use a 10 cell -1.2 volt sub-1/2-a- cells.

I have a problem with my Excal and it sounds like maybe you can help. I bought a battery and charger off ebay about six month ago . T he new type of battery .It worked ok for a little while and now if i have it on the charger 24 hours or even more the battery only seems to last maybe 30 minutes and then the detector starts falsing to a point youc ant use it . If i turn it off for a few minutes and then back on it works ok for a minute or two then starts the falsing again. It just seems like the battery is not charging or not taking a charge I need all the help i can get on this one Thanks Mark oh i also bought the charger with the battery from i think it was called only battery pacs or something like that Youcan email me at msil@aol.com Thanks again
