Can anyone tell me what the specs are on the seals for the excels, I know the outermost knob dust seal is an 008, I want to go through and reseal my unit prior to this summer. Thanks in advance.

Contact Ole Beech Nut.... he knows and infact sells a complete packet of the seals needed. He has a vedio showing how to replace them as well with some neat tricks.

OBN,

Thanks for your video's it is because of you that I took this on in the first place. I have an older Sword model that I want to protect, I have heard you can pressure test them by using a schrader valve and 8 PSI through the headphone side if you modify an existing head phone terminal, is that what you do? I want to use this diving but won't risk it till I know it is sound. The search coil was replaced with a ten inch off an excal 1000,when they replaced it they did not epoxy seal the wires where they come through the end cap-I have already done that, any other suggestions ???

I removed the circuit board and checked the smaller shaft seals and they were all in good repair-if I had new ones I would have replaced them. Do you know what size they are?

I made a special endcap that I can use a hand pump and pump the pressure up to about 5 pounds. It does leak down very slow when all is sealed but it will stop at about 2 lbs. If it goes down further I will repump and set the pod in a 6 gallon bucket full of fresh water and watch. I have got to the point now I feel confident enough if I replace all the or ings, except the 2 on the knob shafts and just the top, and I lube all up with Dow Corning 111, I just place the detector in the pool at about 4 feet, if some one is using it for diving I do let it set in the deep end for about 45 minutes....then pull and check for water. I have only had one leaker out of about 25 machines and it ended up being a cracked pod...like a dummy I just pulled it out of the pool thinking all was fine and turned it on not checking for water first. It made a weird bunch of noises so I looked at it close and dag..it had water in it...turned out the pod had a hairline crack....SO be careful with your weight belts and never pile anything on your machine, even if it is in a cushioned travel bag...
