Excalibur

The first few trips are going be a lesson in the history of pull-tabs. Don't be discouraged if you don't find gold the first day out. Or the second day, for that matter. Have you owned another detector?

Yes I have had an explore for the last 3 years. I know there will be a learning curve but that's part of the fun.
Thanks
Frank(FL)

The beaches here are FULL of pull-tabs and bottle tops. That is the reason I changed to an Excal. I was told that it would discriminate better between aluminum and gold. My other machine was a very good machine but I was digging every signal because there wasn't enough difference in the sounds. I am realy happy with my Excal because it does make discriminating between junk and gold much, much easier. My learning curve took 3 months and then the fine tuning of my ear took 6 months. I still dig some tabs. Anything that sounds the least bit different from my standard pulltab sound gets pulled. But I am digging less and finding more. Some might say that you will miss finds if you don't dig every signal but I have enough confidence in my Excal that I have little doubt that I am missing that many. It is a good feeling to have a machine you can trust.

I pulled a nice size gold crucifix out of the sand and I was about 5 seconds from not because of a null(iron) sound i got from it due to depth, so when I pulled it I was really surprised it was about 16" down after that I dig everything and put the disc really low as I think that I could have passed up many other things before. But if you trust your ears.............leave it behind for me as I have had a dry run as of late.:rage::rage::rage:

Hey Frank(Fl), I think you are going to be very pleased with your new EXCAL! As I have (3) of them, and I am very pleased with mine. One very important note, if you scoop a target, and then lose the sound of the target, take another scoop or two out of the hole, because you may have moved it on its side, and the detector is not picking it up. If you had a good target audio, and then lose it after trying to recover it, stay with it, and you will find it again. HH

Hey Frank, I forgot to add, that waterhunting is a whole different animal than land hunting.
Especially, when it comes to finding targets in the water!! I've been waterhunting for approx. 5yrs., and this yr. I had more trouble recovering good targets, than ever before.
Maybe, I'm just getting older, and more impatient. Anyway, if you are going to waterhunt, you will need a long handled stainless steel scoop for that, and I strongly recommend a 6" diameter bucket scoop, because that extra inche in diameter will make a difference in brackish water, where you cannot see the bottom, and are working hearing and putting the scoop inplace with your feet. Most important, learn your EXCAL on the beach, and in very shallow water, before venturing out into chest deep of deeper, unless you are scuba diving. Just my humble opinion.
P.S. The reason you want to purchase a long handle stainless steel water acoop is so you do not have to purchase one later, as a result of learning later, that is what most water hunters use, and need. If you buy a galvanized wire basket scoop, it will rust and weaken with time, and you will have to go stainless steel later, which will be an added expense. Unless of course, you can pick up some used bargains. HH

Thanks for the info. I have had it out once so far. I am getting a long handle scoop in a few days. HH

Sometimes we all get a little carried away and venture into water a little deeper than we thought we would be in and the Longer sand scoop can also be a life saver. Be Very careful when going into deeper waters.
